FAZ Took Mercedes’s “DrivePilot” for a Spin - DrivePilot. Sounds fancy, right? Well…

  • First off, this system is a total homebody — it only works on pre-mapped German autobahns and won’t go faster than 95 km/h 59mph - on an autobahn you will be shouted off the road at that speed. Anything beyond that, and you’re back in charge.

  • Night drive? Rain? Fog? Forget it. DrivePilot gets stage fright when the weather isn’t perfect — the Lidar and sensors basically throw in the towel.

  • Hit a construction zone? The car hands the wheel right back to you like, “Good luck, buddy.”

  • Also, don’t expect any cool overtaking maneuvers. The system stays glued to the right lane, only works when following another vehicle (ideally a truck or bus), and refuses to pass.

Just started using FSD 13 down under…. WOW. What really blew me away is its ability to navigate roadworks, speed humps etc. Very impressive and the drive feels so safe without being too overly cautious

I wonder when Mercedes, BMW, VW & Co. start asking Tesla for licensing? Hurry up or die…

Lmaooo my friend with a Lincoln Navigator said their car drives itself too, i said yeah right they claim it “drives itself” only on highways does it engage tho… curious how bad there’s is too

One day they will all be lining up to adopt Tesla FSD. Seems inevitable

How about avoiding the 12 Millions potholes our great roads have to offer?

My uncle was a truck driver. He said, during fog or bad night weather, cars used to blindly follow him into truck stops. I suspect similar will happen with DrivePilot.

In other words: "DrivePilot" = Waymo made in German
