Who are you? And how much of what makes you you is really up to you? Kind of cool to thing about huh.

Well anyway, this week we're once again joined by our pal Luke Taylor to discuss CURE, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's 1997 Japanese horror banger about a detective investigating a series of murders committed by seemingly ordinary folks who have one thing in common: they freaked out and went crazy.

Great movie. Decent guest. You could do worse, honestly. Nahh.. we had a great time.

Or at least I think we did.. I don't.. really remember.. Oh no! I'm the guy from the movie! Bye!

What do you guys think happened to Sakuma (the cop psychiatrist)? They say he killed himself but he was handcuffed to a pipe. Did he know he was going crazy so he handcuffed himself and then the only person he could kill was himself? Or did takabe kill him, and his wife, and mamiya?

Will

Mike is a great addition to the pod.

Chris the Friend

Powder for pedophile month. Absolutely evil flick.

Franz Mesmer WAS a real person and really was the guy that developed hypnotism. The reason hypnotism was considered pseudoscience in America for so long was Ben Franklin met Mesmer and hated him so he wrote a bunch about how Mesmer sucks and should be disbelieved lmao

ffffffff

Smh, Luke, the creator of mesmerism was German, and Luke 100% meant Austrian instead of Australian. Mesmer is where we get the term animal magnetism. It's sort of part of the milieu from which spiritism emerged as well. The link to psychoanalysis is that Charcot used hypnosis (mesmerism is effectively a synonym for hypnotism) to treat hysterical patients at the Salpêtrière clinic. Freud studied there and used hypnosis during his first sessions but stopped soon as he developed psychoanalytic technique in his own direction.
