Chris (Conrad) actually refused to sing in Mean girls😂. The character was originally meant to

miah.sun

Before I state my opinion, I want to disclaim that I do not have a distinct team. I see all the character’s flaws and pros and cons. I leaned toward team Conrad in season 1 however, I am solidly team JEREMIAH in season 2. But I do not hate on Conrad. And I personally do not think he is being an “asshole” in THIS episode. Here’s why: Juli made a comment about Conrad when he was speaking to Jere. Jeremiah said “no more doing everything alone.” Then Juli said “you [Conrad] are not the only one who lost a mom.” However, Conrad does not think he is the only one who lost a mom! It is that he is trying too hard to take on everyones’ burden. He wants to shelter Jere because he knows how much Jeremiah hurts over losing their mom. When Conrad found out about the house, he explains at the beginning of the episode that he didn’t tell Jeremiah because he didn’t want Jere to hurt. Conrad said that he felt like he lost his mom all over again when he saw the for sale sign and that he didn’t want Jere to feel the same way. Of course, Conrad is wrong for attempting to carry Jere’s burden and shelter him, but he is in NO WAY acting as if he is the only one who lost someone. Conrad is the opposite of selfish. It is that is trying to be tooo selfless that he is taking on others’ burdens needlessly. Additionally, during the prom scene Conrad asks Belly if they can go and talk while they are dancing. You can hear in his voice that he is on the edge of tears. Belly says no and that she wants to stay at prom. That was Conrad trying to open up, but he is soo afraid of disappointing her because she so obviously does not want to leave prom. She asks him what is wrong and I want to scream through the tv “HIS MOM IS DYING.” She keeps complaining that Conrad doesn't let her in and let her help, however, he JUST ASKED to go and talk while on the verge of tears and she rejected him. If I were Conrad, I wouldn’t even be at a prom at that moment. But he is trying for her (Even though he shouldn’t be - granted). Conrad is obviously not able to have a girlfriend right now. He is drowning in his own grief. He cannot worry about anyone else’s feelings right now. Not to mention the other things that Conrad has to resolve like how he internalizes his pain, his anxiety, his panic attacks, his difficulty vocalizing his feelings and how he takes on everything on himself. He has a lot of work through mental health wise. But he is not as Juli says “treating her [belly] like shit” and wanting to “continue disappointing her.” He simply doesn’t want to go to prom and act okay when his mom is dying. I don’t think he has any obligation to put on a happy face for Belly. And again, should he be trying to do so anyway? No. But he is, for Belly. He is horrible at pretending though. That is why Belly can feel his misery…and somehow makes it out to be about her and how she must be doing something wrong and not that, oh, his mom is dying. I understand Conrad can be “downer” and that some people are “over it” as they put it but, yeah, we are watching him at the worst time in his life. He went through a year of watching his mom die and now it has only been a month or two since she passed. And I know that people compare him to Jeremiah who in comparison, is happy sunshine and who is dealing with his mom’s death in a much healthier way. And I AGREE which is why, this season, I am team Jeremiah. He is a healthier choice for Belly because he is in a healthier place. But that does not mean that Conrad is treating Belly like shit or that he deserves a “blech” or “blah” in my opinion. I understand his misery and his mental health issues can feel repetitive - but, in my opinion, from my experience with my own mother dying, that is what grief and depression is. It is repetitive! It does annoy other people. I was a downer for a long time after my mom died. Plenty of people did not want to be around me. I was not able to be a giver to anyone else. I could not have sustained a new relationship like Conrad was trying to do with Belly. That is his real fault - that he tried to do so. But everything else he has said and done, I do not fault. And then the funeral…Belly yelled at him at his mother’s FUNERAL because of a petty teenage jealousy and their relationship issues. Not the time and place. Do I understand her feelings? Of course. But it’s his mother’s FUNERAL. Belly admits in episode one of this season that she ruined the funeral. So, after a little perspective, she understands this too. Again, we see this same issue between Conrad and Belly. Conrad is dealing with some BIG stuff and Belly is, of course, being a normal teenager. But that is not where Conrad is at. Her feelings are not wrong. She can be jealous and mad about him not accepting her help however, it was his mother’s FUNERAL. It is not the time to yell at him about his faults. I feel like some people are not realizing how big of a deal that is. It is a sacred moment. So, I don’t blame him for saying some out of line things. This was the one moment of the episode where YES he was being an asshole with the things he said to her however, if someone had the nerve to come at me at my mother’s funeral about something like that, I probably would have said wayyy worse things. Cause I’m human and I’m not any better than Conrad.

Thank you! I agree with a lot about what you said with Conrad and while Juli also made some good points, I feel like bias was showing towards this episode because she loves Jere and wants Belly and Jere together

Everything Juli pointed out here is my problem with a character like Conrad.

Conrad is not an asshole the pressure put on from his dad he always felt that burden on his shoulders And at prom he just didn’t want to be there his mom had days to live and really belly over reacted and told him to go to hell at his moms funeral she would be so far out the door if that was me. The thing with belly is she over thinks things and puts Conrad on this pedestal people just like throwing the word toxic around when both boys are grieving and she gets with him in five days when they should both be left alone to grieve together.

He's not an asshole as a person but He is being an asshole, there's a difference. And their relationship is very toxic rn

Hunter

I don’t think Conrad’s and asshole at all. I think he has the right to be upset. Just because Jer is acting more fine doesn’t make him a better choice. Conrad is grieving his mom long before she passed. It’s hard to grieve a person who is still living knowing they don’t have long. Saying he’s an asshole is just wrong in my opinion.

I love your reactions so much, but conrad breaths and you are annoyed lmao, he made pretty good points, and he's doing everything in his power to save this house. I'm not o either one's team BTW, they are both annoying, jeremiah pressured the hell out of belly to be with her, and conrad could not express his emotions, in the big picture, conrad is just trying to project Jer from dealing with all of this, he's a big brother. I think he's also hurting, and we all like to say everyone deals with it differently, not everyone heals and grieve the same way, so I think you should be a little easier on him, I love belly but she''s also not an innocent bystander, all 3 of them are super annoying half the time. You can ship who you want, but it's so much bigger than that

Jeremiah hasn't forced or pressured belly into anything. In the first season he told her he liked her and she kissed him that's it, and she continued to do so after that. So normally he assumed they were going to be in a relationship but then she broke his heart and in this season he's rightfully upset and guarded.
