I think you haven't been paying attention to the people telling you how the actress who plays caroline was pregnant in real life and that this was their way around it in order to keep her on the show. Damon said in 1x11 that as long as a vampire keeps a constant blood diet, their bodies still function as if their still human and they can actually enjoy the taste of food and drinks which is why we see vampires drink alcohol all the time or why this episode nora and Mary Louise would make pancakes. Plus, this pregnancy storyline does set up the Legacies spinoff that actually premieres tomorrow

Cut maybe the best steroline scene in the whole series. The 1st I love you. Lily died trying to save Damon's life she literally killed herself trying to save him. Damon spends the rest of the season and his life regretting the way he treated his mother because of course he's wrong and he soon realizes it that's why he was hallucinating her. Everything your saying hes right for doing and feeling ends up being his biggest regret he hates himself for being so cold. Because of course you dont tell your dying mother that she deserves to die and it's her fault.
