Mai and Ty Lee went to the same school as Azula but they're not firebenders. As for Azula, while they explain her lightningbending late on, it's never explained but the reason she has blue fire is that she's more intense because in real life, blue fire is 600 degrees hotter than normal fire

Haha Azula is scary for sure. But so fun to watch. Her blue fire is much hotter than regular fire, which just goes to show to pure power behind her firebending. I'm excited for more to come!

In character creation, Azula's blue fire was picked because they wanted her to stand out against the other firebenders as being hella powerful. Not only does blue fire burn hotter, blue is also seen as a cold colour, reflecting Azula's cold personality. Her signature blue flames is also why her name is Azula, which means blue. She's one scary girl but I love her to death lol, such a great antagonist!

Azula is the flip side of Zuko. That is what makes her so scary. She could have been him and he could have been her.
