Jarrod Wild

Thanks for watching this Juli! This is a visually stunning film and was shot by Ang Lee for 3D, and how he used 3D is amazing (including fish jumping straight out of the movie, crossing the letterbox border). The allegory is great too, as Pi's survival story is not quite so fantastical but in the end it doesn't matter. Richard Parker was a real tiger much of the time too. :) Beautiful score, and Ang Lee won the best director Oscar!

When I search for the poster to add it to the post I saw that the film was made in 3D. My tv is an old 3D tv and I wish I could have known so I could have watched the film in 3D. When the fish jumped out of the frame that was my first thought that it might be 3D I think it would have give me a more personal experience watching it like that but I sadly didn’t know about it. Either way, the film was FANTASTIC!

I like rewatching this movie periodically. And hey I cry every time I watch it, regardless whether the tiger is real. There's an ethereal quality to a lot of the film. I'm not religious but am still moved by the spiritual nature of the story. The book is the same way, though it's been a while since I read it. If I recall the magical island Pi and Richard Parker found was a metaphor for something quite disturbing.

This movie is so visually beautiful and so is the soundtrack as well. When they wash ashore on the mexican beach, I always hope Richard Parker will look back at him haha :)
