I was dreading this episode. Does not look good for Brooke😞

Enzo

Do I work in 5 hours? Yes. Am I going to watch this? Totally 😁!

Claudio Cristovao

Haha watching right now!! I’m dying to see your reaction at the end. I remember being so shocked lol

Juliette

I was going to sleep but no I have to watch this haha

Nathan

Phew. Ever since 4x06 I’ve had a lot to say about this but I was waiting for this episode. Now I can finally sound off on my opinion on this about the way season 4’s version of Brooke was handled. (If anyone has any opinions on this I’d love to hear it. Just no Peyton or Brooke hate please.) This storyline is a low point for the show IMO. Mostly cause it felt so out of left field and completely shoehorned into the story. I remember this plot actually got leaked (irony) before the episode premiered and became the topic of discussion and even written about in articles before and after. I know a lot of the fandom that was sympathetic towards Brooke after S3 (me included) were extremely annoyed with this episode and at the writers for this entire season because it truly felt like a Brooke slander campaign. We know Brooke was never meant to be an essential character nor was she ever meant to be someone that most of the audience connected to. That spot was reserved for Peyton because anyone with a brain could see that the show runner had a soft spot for and favored Peyton’s character over most others. Not to mention that he would randomly throw himself into scenes with her. Which is fine because I think season 2-3 she was probably the most dynamic. So the people that did connect to her, is easy to why. But with that said, they never expected the audience to be as divided as they were when it came to the whole Brooke/Peyton Leyton/Brucas thing. The backlash that Peyton’s character would got after the season 3 finale. The message boards and forums were brutal. And so many people would vent about how it felt like this entire season was them trying to drag Brooke’s character through the mud, and I remember not agreeing fully with that opinion but once this episode aired, my eyes were wide open and it became painfully obvious that’s actually what was happening. Brooke is spiteful, Brooke is childish, Brooke can be mean. But all the unnecessary digs at Peyton’s moms and insensitivity towards her being assaulted were NOT things I believe she would be capable of doing. Now add on the fact that we’re supposed to believe her and Nathan screwed. However, to be fair, in season 1 Brooke was also the same girl who ruined Naley’s blossoming relationship and tried to get her best friend to get back with her toxic boyfriend just so she could sleep with Lucas. So maybe on some level it’s not too crazy that this tape does exist. But it doesn’t negate the propaganda of this season.

Dydra Arnold

Ahhh I have been waiting for this moment.. I have a lot to say. So we all know it was wrong the way Peyton was with Brooke when it came to Lucas. She cheated behind her best friends back and as much as I love her... that wasn’t ok at all. Now that this has finally been revealed I think it sheds light into just how much Peyton went through with this. She was truly remorseful and sorry for what she put Brooke through. And I think the biggest thing here is that Brooke dragged Peyton down. She made all of these nasty comments about Peyton and her mom and literally acted like Peyton was the worse person ever. And this whole time Brooke has known that she slept with Nathan and wasn’t honest.. no matter the extra circumstances. I don’t think this is something that should give Peyton a pass for season 1 when she cheated with Lucas. However, when she was honest in season 3 and was willing to back down for Brooke... that’s what makes Brooke’s actions and betrayal hit so hard here. Honestly its very hypocritical. I think this gives opportunities for growth though. Both characters messed up, it’s just now Brooke is finally having to deal with backlash that Peyton has had to deal with for seasons now. I think this is a moment where the characters and audience can realize that both aren’t perfect. They made mistakes and hopefully they can forgive and grow from here. I can’t wait to give more opinions on this when we get to the next episodes!

Yes! Rachel 100% had the slap coming for a LONG time! Sure, she's a good friend to Brooke. That's her redeemable quality. But she went after a married man, and stole a test (his wife's), and got her fired for it. Haley doesn't know Rachel's good qualities, because Rachel hasn't shown her that side. All she has seen is the girl who tried to ruin and get in between 2 friends of hers relationship, tried to ruin her own relationship with Nathan, and got her fired from a job she truly loved. I love that scene tbh. Even if I feel a bit bad for Rachel.

sandrinegeller

Please do a one day binge soon if you can! That would be so much fun!

Dani

I am here for a one day binge of Season 4 One Tree Hill..

J

Yes!!!! Please a one day binge! We love the OTH reactions!

thisismaria27

It’s so interesting bc I will defend a lot of stuff Brooke did (bc I love her sm), but this was the one thing I don’t think you can excuse. Not bc she slept with Nathan (next episode will deal with the how and why etc), but bc now Peyton must feel so hurt that Brooke pretty much ended their friendship over the same type of secret/betrayal. I feel since Brooke loved Lucas and Peyton didn’t love Nathan it’s a little different, but it was similar nonetheless. prepare for some epic fallout 😬

>>36869257

I loved that too. It’s an interesting side to Haley. She is always sweet and empathetic towards others, but even she has her breaking points and she’s not afraid to get her madness out when you come after her family or career.

Juliette

Brooke is ma favourite and I always felt like this season is sabotaging her by making Leyton more appealing to the audience. Because Brucas was a strong ship back in the days and many fans wanted them to ended up together (which was not happening because of the plot since pilot and the Chad/Sophia issue).

Dydra Arnold
>>36871343

See I never felt like they needed to sabotage Brooke to make Leyton more appealing. Their connection for me was evident from the pilot on. And the creator (ewww) said so himself as well.

Enzo

That is what I waited all along. Brooke was not a good friend to Peyton at her downs. And now you see... that. This is another evidence that Brooke is just a hypocrite. She was a bitch to Peyton all along even when Peyton was sincere with her. Peyton deserves someone better as a friend. And I know there was a plenty people saying oh but Peyton/Nathan relationship wasn’t healthy so that is different. It didn’t mean anything for her, which for me makes it even worse. She betrayed her BFF just so she could have fun. At least, Peyton really loved Lucas and felt bad about it. Of course before everyone comes to me, I know that’s not a reason for Peyton to cheat with Lucas AT ALL!!! but Brooke did worse. The next episode is a big one for Peyton/Brooke and is a big one in generally! The ep16 is even more BIG! This season is wonderful. The actor that plays Dan is named Paul and yes he did a wonderful job playing him!!

Enzo

I am ALL IN for a whiole day binge of OTH! That would be a DREAM 😍

heather

This season has 21 episodes by the way & I’m sure everyone’s down for an OTH binge day to finish the season lol! Gosh, this season is just so good and it gets even better!! This episode is such a big one but the episodes coming up are as well. I remember being so shocked when seeing Brooke & Nathan’s sex tape when I first watched- I’m sure everyone pretty much had the same reaction lol! I feel like it’s different compared to Lucas & Peyton, but it’s still not a good look for Brooke. Both Peyton and Brooke have made terrible mistakes and have done stuff to hurt each other :( Your face when Haley was going at Rachel was priceless😂 She definitely had it coming to her tho. Also, I understand Nathan’s conflicting feelings towards his mother, but I’m glad him and Haley are moving in with her. She needs people around to support her. I hope you get to watch 4x15 today then take a day to binge the remaining 6 episodes👀

ju

i hope you can finish this season by the end of this month I absolutely love your oth reactions!

>>36871811

Omg this is what I’ve always thought about the Peyton and Brooke friendship.. at least Peyton’s cheating with Lucas was actually out of love for eachother. Brooke and Nathan screwed over Peyton for fun for one night and I find that worse tbh

miah.sun

oh I was dreading this reveal :). I love Brooke. I still think that Nathan and Brooke's platonic friendship is so sweet. They are both interesting characters b/c they both were not great people at the start of the show. So, it makes sense what they did back then. They have both developed although Brooke still has more to go. She is now definitely hypocritical although I hate that this makes what Peyton did seem canceled out. They both did wrong things.

miah.sun

Rachel and Brooke's friendship is so sweet! Rachel especially is a great friend. The boxes in her room show that she has been to many schools because she has moved around a lot. I think her parents suck. She is 18. I think Haley is justified in hitting Rachel for the Nathan thing although she should have done it when it happened :). But I feel bad that Rachel got a drink in the face for something she didn't do.

miah.sun

I actually 100% agree with you that Mouth was pressuring the girl. The show leaned really hard into Mouth being a "nice guy" and "friend zoned". He definitely guilt tripped her. He went into the relationship knowing her values yet after like two minutes of being together he is wanting to have sex. what? She was telling him pretty clearly that she was a clean teen and she needed slow. Yet he comes back with "you don't think im good enough" "you don't think im attractive". It was like she had to sleep with him to prove that she didn't think those things. Overall, I like mouth's character but there are instances like this that make me cringe.

Rubi Moon

I know people are going to have a war about all of the Brooke and Peyton stuff, but I think I want to talk about the behind the scenes stuff and why all of this actually makes an uncomfortable amount of sense. I don't think this stuff had anything to do with the time period the show was being made, but just think about how much this show actually revolves around sex, manipulation, and betrayal. From the storyline with Peyton, Brooke, and Lucas to the storyline with Shelly, to the interactions between Gigi, Shelly, and Mouth, to the storyline with Chris, Brooke, Haley, Lucas, and Nathan. There's always the undertone of sex and betrayal and it just makes me think of how much it does make sense that this all happens when you consider the producer/writer for most of these episodes. I'm not going to go into details as I don't want to spoil anything for Juli, but consider everything that happens during this season and the next 2 seasons as a certain character slowly gets written off. Everything that happens from Season 4 to Season 6 and even 7, I feel like is more so the producer projecting his feelings as well as anticipating the certain someone leaving. I know people will have their comments about Brooke and Peyton and other people, but do keep that in mind. I don't actually think it's really in character for Brooke to sleep with Nathan or even for Brooke to hold onto this grudge for so long. I think it's really the producer influencing certain parts of the show. There's this just underlining message of sex is normal in high school and that cheating is normal and pressuring people is okay. I understand this is a drama so yes certain things are going to be emphasized to raise the drama, but the amount this show does that particular motif is very eye opening and really does make you think about if the producer/writer really made the difference between certain character story archs. We know for sure obviously the main person that was influenced, but there's certainly more because of that person leaving.

Christopher Nicholas

I really didn't remember what 414 was even about, then Nathan said he was having a house party 😳

>>36880629

I absolutely agree and also there were parts where the writers and producers wrote their real lives into scripts, like right in those episodes, James and Sophia (Nathan and Brooke) were actually dating and Sophia has said that they wrote their personal lives into scripts and it is upsetting.

Kirsten Rhodes
>>36877470

I totally agree with you! While I do believe Mouth is a genuinely sweet guy, they kept putting him in situations as the "nice guy" as if that were a good thing. Like he is constantly complaining about being girls' friends and not being desirable because he is "nice." But he is also going after these extremely beautiful girls and then telling them that all they care about is looks if they don't like him. The show seemed to treat it like Shelly "owed" him sex because he was "nice" to her and called her beautiful, and it always really upset me that the show framed it as if we were supposed to be on Mouth's side. Instead of having Mouth respect her values, they have him almost manipulate her into sex. It was always really interesting to me that for as much as they had Mouth complain about being a "friend," he had a lot a relationships (Erica Marsh, Rachel, Gigi, Shelly, random model).

Juliette

Also, I would've love more friendship scenes between Brooke and Nathan, they have a great chemistry.

Dove

I've always felt Mouth pressured Shelby to have sex. It always bothered me how he was portrayed as the victim, if you pressure someone who's not ready and they freak out then that's your doing. Mouth never behaved that way with Gigi because Gigi wasn't as hot as Shelby, lets be real. He was in lust. Deb's storyline was also criticized at the time, there wasn't as much awareness about addictions as today but many people already saw it as an illness and weren't happy with the way the show depicted it as a "weakness" that Deb needed to simply move on from. About Brooke and Nathan, I can't blame Brooke, since before this season she didn't know she had slept with Nathan and her character had been written that way (it's pretty obvious they shot that video this season). I honestly thought it was done at the time to shut up Brucas shippers because they were being annoying and their main reason to attack Leyton was the cheating. Now Brooke is a hypocrite and they can't say anything.

Anna

To this day this storyline is, if not my least, then one of my least favourites. I didn't like it back then and I don't like it now. This was supposed to be from season 1 and back then it unfortunately wouldn't have been out of character for either Brooke or Nathan. But with the development they've both had up until now (especially Nathan, Brooke has most of hers later on, but still) it feels like a slap in the face bringing this up now. Brooke and Peyton were finally starting to get along again and I was enraged that they brought this up and dragged their feud even longer than what they already had. Back when I saw this episode for the first time I thought they did this for the sake of the drama, but now, knowing the truth about how the female cast were treated by that scumbag of a boss, it's devastating that he abused his powers like this and let the characters be the ones that suffered when he didn't get things his way. I will defend Brooke for a lot of things, and to an extend I will this time as well, but only bc I'm pretty sure this was something that they came up with this season and Brooke never knew about the sextape. I also think they had this storyline partly to make it look like what Peyton and Lucas did to Brooke wasn't as bad and to idk, even the score between the two girls. Which is heartbreaking and disgusting. Most times I look back and think they did a great job handling the different friendships on the show, but then there's Breyton, and I have to reconsider everything. Their friendship has so much potential, but they constantly pit the girls against each other and that's not how I would want teens today to think that's how girls treat each other. If there's one thing I'm thankful for in the midst all of the on screen drama that went down, it has to be the fact that Hilarie and Sophia never let that come between them and their off screen friendship. Instead they've been supporting each other all these years and are still good friends.

Anna

An honorable mention to my girl Haley for slapping Rachel. That was honestly such a mood and I'm not gonna say she didn't deserve it because she did. Rachel messed with Nathan so much in the beginning of the season and Haley was bound to snap at some point.

Enzo
>>36895671

Never understand why people say it’s out of character for both of them. It’s not like Brooke wasn’t the one who tried to mess with Naley back in S1 and Nathan was not an ass. This didn’t even surprised me.

Gandhi_18
>>36896090

IKR, that was big mood when Haley slapped Rachel and then roasted her ass lmao

Caitlyn Skiff

To me, you have to remember how bad Peyton and Nathan's relation ship was. And how awfule a person Brooke was at the beginning of the show. They are different people now. I will be on team Brooke, forever, and I think it isnt fair to judge her reactions to Peyton and Lucas is hypocritical as Peyton and Nathan never really were a couple, they just hooked up and broke up a lot. I say the circumstances were way different and you need to keep that in mind.

Dydra Arnold
>>36905214

I think that it’s not fair to say that Nathan and Peyton weren’t really a couple. Just because Nathan wasn’t a good person back then and treated people like crap doesn’t mean that Peyton’s feelings for him weren’t real. He was the first guy she was ever with romantically and I’m sure everything she went through with him weighed on her a lot back then. She wanted Nathan to notice the small things about her and spend as much time with her as he did with the team then. Yes, she ended things with him quickly in the first season. But I think it was because she realized he couldn’t give her what she needed and wanted and he wasn’t going to be a better person for her. That doesn’t mean that her feelings and the relationship wasn’t real to her during that time.

Nathan
>>36871147

It’s not even close to the point where neither of the two scenarios are in the same area. Neither are good and is bad for both of them. But Brooke and Nathan had meaningless hookup. Lucas and Peyton constantly snuck behind Brooke’s back on multiple occasions. This is such a “gotcha” moment in the show for people to criticize and ridicule Brooke.

Enzo

(for the record you’ve watched 81 episodes on a total of 187 episodes, that’s a lot and still more to go 🥰 )

Ben Davis

I can't wait for the next ep great reaction

thisismaria27
>>36927195

thanks Enzo! I was gonna say, no way she's through half the episodes yet. the middle is probably somewhere in season 5, before the 100th episode (which was EPIC btw).

Caitlyn Skiff

*Could be a spoiler* I also feel like this Nathan/Brooke scandal coming out was necessary for Brooke and Peyton's friendship because before this they had just slapped a band aid on their friendship and never resolved their issues (particularly Brooke's issues). I think this and some thing that happen in the next couple episodes make their friendship stronger for the future.

miah.sun
>>36960160

yes I agree so much!! I actually think this is a push to finally confront their issues b/c they were just tip toeing around each other so much.

Nathan

Quick side note: Just scrolling through most of these comments does make me smile a bit. Most of us disagree on certain subjects but it’s great to see we’re all able to debate and converse without ripping each other’s heads off. This is a great community to be apart of.

Chantelle Miles

Juli love u but its killing me everytime you say u dont believe anything nice Dan says. Its is real and genuine and yes he is still protecting himself and trying to make up for everything but he is desperate to make up for the past and be their for Keith's child and Karen and his boys & family including Haley now. Him not even going mad over the pregnancy alone shows his growth....& be fair Kai was a sociopath ...Dan is just a bad guy who made a huge mistake and was abusive but he isnt a physcho

Lexi
>>37548946

Omg I agree so much with this!!!!! He isn’t the devil he’s trying to fix his mistakes

Leora Nechama

So I love Brooke and I'm not the biggest Peyton fan. Peyton wasn't a good friend to Brooke. Brooke did still do a lot of bad things and she grows in the later seasons. But I think the emotion matters here. Peyton and Nathan were never in love. They were so toxic. That doesn't mean Brooke should have slept with him, but she was so drunk idk if she even remembered after. I still feel like Peyton and Lucas cheating on Brooke was so much worse because they all knew Brooke was in love with Lucas and it would break her heart. Nathan couldn't have broken Peyton's heart cuz she didn't give it to him. They didn't have the loving trusting relationship Brooke was fooled into believing she had with Lucas in s1.
