Hi again! So this is part two of catching up on requests from a couple of weeks back...

This is a recording of me hanging in my lounge and singing a couple of songs on the guitar. 🎶

It usually takes me a couple of evenings at least - even if I get the chords/music online somewhere - and then I'm often like: nope can't sing that one. 😂 Yeah LDR is a total storyteller! I think people take her too literally sometimes - but she's even said that she works with a kind of persona....

Why you do this to me, Matthew? You almost had me in tears while closing the coffee shop, singing Lord Huron. I fucking love Lord Huron. And you gave me the same shivers he gives me. So fucking good. I didn't look him up after the AMA audio and that was my loss because Marlon Williams is great! He is now on my Spotify likes list and Death Don't Have No Mercy goes great on my dark and gritty bluegrass playlist. He has a very Elvis kind of vocal tone and affect but darker and grittier and I am here for it. I should put you on my friends-who-give-great-music-recommendation list. Btw, I would sing back up for you any day, put my many years of vocal lessons to good use finally 🙄 lol. But you definitely don't need it cause your one man album would be just as great as this was. I would like to request The Night We Met by Lord Huron and Lay Lady Lay by Bob Dylan next!

Oh wow, I love Lord Huron! What a treat. I actually saw them live a few years ago and they were fantastic. If you like them, give Trampled by Turtles a listen! “Alone” is a favorite of mine. If you don’t already listen to Father John Misty, I also recommend him! Pshhh yes you can! We all have the proof of your singing abilities. The only place I can get away with singing is my shower or my car, some things you just can't unhear😂😂😂💀 I totally agree! I think working with a persona gives her more leeway creatively because then she doesn't just have one "type" of song to stick to. Her lyrics are deeper then face value. I really like Cherry Blossom.

But I think two of my favourites from that period never recorded for Motown - Sam Cooke and Otis Redding (but I still put them all together)... I have already picked out my song to share. ☺️ However, at this moment I have a bad case of laryngitis from my outrageous allergies and the weather change where I live. My voice fluctuates between nonexistence and squeaking like a pubescent boy. No one wants to hear that. I have been diligently drinking tea and gargling salt water and now I have new motivation to continue all the home remedies to try and get my vocal cords to make sounds that at least resemble something human again. 😂🤣😂 Shit slapping me in the face with my croaky, squeaky voice is the fact that I tried to write this with voice-to-text and my phone couldn't work out what words I was saying 🙄🐸🤐

I still find myself blinking hard as I try to wrap my mind around what I've stumbled into over the last 24 hours. Unfamiliar. Wildly unexpected. It's been a tough week with clients walking through grief, diagnoses, treatment, and for the first time in a while funerals as this part of the world opens up again. It reminds me of sitting in on writers rounds in quiet small venues around Nashville listening to a buddy I used to sing with in college play. I can pass on the incredibly well produced cuts that won him Grammy's and almost as many #1's as my age (which is stupid ridiculous!) But strip things down with just his voice and an acoustic guitar in the round...mmmmm...I'm IN! Nothing beats the raw authenticity and vulnerability when someone's soul connects to music. So thank you for this unexpected gift.

Oh D - I really hope you get a chance to unwind and take your mind off everything this weekend. You just gave me some massive nostalgia for the time I spent in Nashville. I was there (in the city and Murfreesboro) for a month and spent a lot of time in little bars and with students at MTSU hanging and playing music. Such a cool time. Thanks for reminding me!! 😘

I’m a raging music fan who wanted to be a rockstar since the age of 9, and I could literally spend aeons talking about it, listening to it, and loving everything about it. I’ve loved the Brothers Finn since their Split Enz days, and yes I was there for the original release of “Leaky Boat”. Then Crowded House came along and I fell in love all over again. “Better Be Home Soon” is also my favourite of theirs. It brings a lump in my throat whenever I hear it. Neil’s vocal range here is just so wide and the emotions simply overwhelm me. I saw they just released a new album, I’ll have to check it out! I also love finding new artists (or at least new to me) so thank you for introducing us to Lord Huron and Marlon Williams. My tastes are pretty far-reaching, but I have a real soft spot for acoustics. Hey, what do you think of Marlon’s recent duet with Lorde for Bruce Springsteen’s “Tougher Than the Rest”? Love the Boss and that song is a particular fave. He often performs it live as a duet with his wife Patty. I thought Marlon & Lorde’s interpretation was a nice homage to that. Which brings us to the classic Cohen. What can I say that hasn’t already been said? It won’t change the fact that it’s a gorgeous piece of poetry. And finally we come to you and your performance which wrapped around me, all snug and cozy, like a warm, fluffy blanket. It had beach bonfire vibes all over it, and yes I was the starry-eyed groupie who couldn’t get enough. You did a great job layering in the backing vocals and the harmonies were lovely. I really believe that being able to play an instrument is a gift, like learning a second language (all the German I know I learned listening to Rammstein 🤘🏻👅🤘🏻). So please don’t stop sharing the music. It just adds another delicious layer to this already scrumptious cake that you’ve invited all of us to enjoy. Chef’s kiss! 💋💋

I think he was singing the higher harmony over her low part!?! I’m not much of a Lorde fan. I don’t know why. I don’t dislike her either. But she’s so earnest all the time.
