I also considered why the aliens don't attack the waterfall. I assume they DID attack all sources of sound and then realized attacking a waterfall doesn't do anything. But what about rustling trees? They could destroy the trees. But, presumably they are hunting. They're attacking things because they are hunting for food or destroying threats. They probably learn after destroying a couple trees that they're not threats and not food. So they'll learn to leave certain sounds alone. Conversely, they'll learn which sounds are not natural sounds and get even better at finding and attacking those.
