It tracks with Lucifer's personality though. When has it ever been straightforward growth with no misunderstanding, misinterpretation or misstep? Lucifer always needs extra processing time to really understand his own feelings and desires. He mostly knows what he wants overall but doesn't always recognise the best way to reach that goal. Plus, in this instance, it was Amenadiel shirking his responsibilities that put Lucifer in this situation. Amenadiel didn't want to leave Charlie to be god so it was either Lucifer or Michael.... don't really blame Lucifer for vetoing the Michael option!!
