The point of Gerard (grandpa hunter) isn't to garner understanding. You're supposed to be extremely unsettled by him and his "logic". Even in his introduction at the funeral, Gerard told Allison that if she's uncomfortable she can call him by his first name but he prefers "grandpa". However, notice that Chris (Allison's dad) calls his own father "Gerard" which if anything indicates that Chris is far from comfortable, so if Chris is suss over his own dad, then we should all be wary
