Dracula isn't as old as the Originals. 😄 The legend of Count Dracula is based on the real-life historical figure of Vlad the Impaler, who was from the 15th century. The Originals...I think Elijah (or Klaus?) said something about being around for a thousand years. Dracula is around 600 years. Whether or not he exists in the Vampire Diaries world, I can't say, but the Dracula legend is not old enough to have created the Originals. I just read Dracula by Bram Stoker for the first time a couple months ago, and I think Klaus is just a little bit more cruel than ol' Vladdy boy. Patience...patience...the show WILL answer your question about how they came to be the Originals.

You watch The Vampire Diaries through to the end of Season 4, then watch the Season 5 premiere, and then you can officially begin The Originals series with all the background/lore you need. There is a recommended watch order if you care to follow it, though given the way you post your reactions, I feel you're very much like me. You watch what you're in the mood to watch when you want to watch it. So you may end up deviating from the watch order anyway, lol. If that's what you want to do, I'm not going to criticize or judge. I've never gotten past the first few episodes of The Originals myself, but I'll try to watch it along with you. I know it gets better from all the hype about it, so I think I need to just stick with it. I just wasn't into the main plotline they started off with, which I won't get into because eventually you might read this comment. If you do read it, I don't want it to end up spoiling anything for you.

Mind you in S1 he tried to compel her to kiss him. He was sneaking in her house, giving her sexual dreams. S2 he literally forced a kiss on her and then killed her brother when she rejected him. I have always held Elena accountable. Her relationship with Damon and how she acted with stefan is one of the reasons that I don’t like her character after S3. I was speaking on Damon and stefan because they are brothers and at the end of the day, Damon is consecutively trying to sabotage his little brother’s relationship that is wrong regardless.

But if your brother goes and sacrifices himself, his sanity, for you to survive as Stefan did and also saved him again in the woods FROM YET ANOTHER WOLF BITE “in his worst place” YOU DONT FUCKIN CREEP ON HIS GIRL, at least while he is gone….AT LEAST!! Only exception i ever gave to Damon was he can’t help it in a sense. He is a Vampire who as a human has always had insectuity problems and impulse issues and possibly anger issues and all of that is all heightened which kinda turns him in psychotic narcissistic person. And the difference between him and Stefan is Damon accepts who he is and revels in it. He is too afraid to face his humanity, he hides from how it will make him feel if he tries to feel it and doesn’t try to let it all in to be a better person because IT WILL KILL HIM FROM GUILT. This is where Stefan (with the help of Lexi) is the bravest of them all💪 So therefore, Damon continues to remain in his ways of being a Vamp with heightened levels of Insecurity, anger, impulse issues etc. But to be clear Yes i agree Elena is absolutely wrong, but it DOES NOT absolve Damon, an indivudal with agency…now again yes vampire heightened yada yada, i get it which is why i blame him a bit less BUT STILL ABSOLUTELY BLAME HIM

I would say its a mix of both, I mean, the first 2/3 episodes of the show begin with him feeding on and killing random people he didn’t do that because he was emotional. He did that because he wanted to. Look at Vicky. He didn’t have to kill vicky, but he wanted to. look how he treated Caroline. He didn’t have to treat her that way, but he wanted to so he did. And then he tried kill her because Elena found out that he was biting her. I mean, think about it. He came into town killing people, and to cover his tracks He killed lexi on stef’s birthday. A lot of the times Damon definitely has no problem killing people.

Missing the point! My deep dislike, and sometimes hatred, for Stefan isn't that he was a monster in the past (and present) but that he lies and pretends that he was always pure and righteous! He goes around telling Elena and everyone else a rewritten version of his history, and it's not until we see the flashbacks that we learn the truth about him, not that he behaved as a vampire doesn't (which i have no problem with) but that he puts on a facade of being a saint (while simultaneously demonizing Damon's entire existence)!
