Content

As I move closer to loosing this currently salaried job (or leaving for the better) I've been talking to lots of people I currently work with and those that just watch my content. If I loose the job or leave I'm wanting to really go at it with making videos and content so it's beneficial for all of us.

With that in mind if anyone wants to offer ideas, feedback or criticism to further develop my content and making that better for you and ultimately more worth while of monthly support (as I think Patreon will be a good place to grow some of the income lost ... potentially). I'd love for you all to be a part of what I'm doing and have some ownership in the direction things go to try and grow.

One thing I thought might help is some sort of anonymous suggestion box type thing if people aren't comfy speaking publicly from their accounts. Should I do that? Hard to tell me to do it as I'll then know it's you ;) but you get the idea, things are open and all out there for to see what's going on my end.

So fire away!

One type of vid you could add, I would call 'disect a patch' where you would present, oh duno, say Kaplus-Strong, show maybe a couple different ways to patch, then some applications...

See my post below in the "Bee's Knees": Being a fellow Yorkshireman I may be tight as a gnats chuff but I will help anyone who has "helped" me. Would an additional Patreon Tier help or a Labour party-style one off payment boost? I am sure most of your $5 patreons can, and will (should) , upgrade to the next level, say $7.00 just to keep the current content stream. It won't buy that Lamborghini (or Cwejman system) but it might help keep you off the street! I'd also be interested in seeing a video where you go through the modules you've actually bought and kept and why. Best of luck mate. Jules

Another idea would be for Patrons to post a pic of their current modular setup and you design a patch suggestion from some of the modules in the pic. Pics can be posted into the community section - either photos or modulargrid diagrams (probably easier to identify individual modules that way).

Corey Tollerud

Probably doesn't apply for my meager $5.00 tier, but something I'd be willing to shell out for would be some in-depth explorations of some west-coast paradigms. Approaches to interfacing the modular world with in-the-box production would be an interesting topic as well.

Hi, I'd love to see less module explanation and more composition and application content. I think a lot of the community is transitioning from adding modules to more focus on using them. Mylar has done a couple vids like this recently and I found them very informative. This can take many forms like creating clock swing with a delay, VCA as And module, build an ASR with multiple S&Hs, compression w/ inverter and VCA, ect... or (what I'd really like) a deeper dive into overall composition from a less technical and more artistic pov.

Ben, a few suggestions, many reflecting the above comments: - You need more Patron tier levels. I'll gladly double to $10/month if the option is there. - More, more, more patch examples where the signal flow is dissected and explained. - Weekly/bi-weekly patch challenges. Even for those with minimal HP in their system, basic patch challenges would be fun. - The comment re: mylarmelodies is very true. He does a great job of thoroughly explaining signal flow for different patches - ambient, rhythmic, glitch, techno, etc. - Basics of utilities - all of the uses for LFOs, VCAs, CV slew, logic, etc. Basically, I think that what we're all looking for is more instructional videos in addition to module reviews. You've got more knowledge than all of us combined most likely, so we turn to you for the sharing of that!

Sunil Solanki

As some one who is a Patreon of yourself, Mylarmelodies and Cabinet of curiosities... As well as others! I would say that Your reviews are what built your loyal following. Keep doing them. You each have your strengths and niches. I look to each of you for help and perspective in different ways. I think you have the most insider knowledge with the manufacturers and you do excellent video interviews. Would love to see more of the meet the designers type of thing. Their thoughts and philosophical approaches... What are they working on next? Perhaps we the modular audience could suggest features for modules to manufacturers in a live stream of something... Oh and could you please do a video on how to sequence multiple synth lines from the Audio Damage 1?

Robert Hyman

I think I would mirror Sunil's comment that what I enjoy about your videos is the in depth analysis of every feature on a module. I think that is incredibly valuable. May not be the sexiest thing but very useful and a great resource when you need it. Maybe take those reviews a step further. For the folks who support you maybe do a tandem video where you apply that module in a patch. I remember a tonestar review you did where you had an amazing sound coming out of just the module so dissecting that sound could be really cool. Exploring the happy accidents and showing standard and even more importantly unusual uses for modules and hearing the sonic results. I think your interviews with manufacturers and other people I the industry is really great too. You have connections that others don't seem to have. I wonder if folks that support you would be interested in one on one sessions with you over skype. A way to maybe discuss a particular idea or patch that someone is doing where having a real time conversation is invaluable to. Maybe if people subscribe at a particular level they get an hour of your time built in or something. The community seems to be very much into the conversations and relationships that happen around the gear so you could probably capitalize on that.

It seems that others have said what I was going to say. I think that of the things you already do, most interesting to me are the interviews. Although Mylar Melodies already does videos explaining his approach to modular, I would be interested to see what you have to say about it. I would definitely consider paying more than 5$/month for some exclusive content or other extras. I really enjoy your videos. Hope you keep making them.

What about education through modular workshops? Though the community might be growing it´s still almost impossible for most being interested who aren´t into modular (yet?) to have a hand on experience with the possibility to experiment on a system themselves. I´m going to do similar at the academy I´m teaching at and the interest at least seems to be quite present simply because of that fact.

Gus Elizondo

Perhaps add some kind of monthly Pateron only video based on suggestions. For example, if some one suggests exploring a combination of modules already reviewed, like how to use a Pamela's workout with a control forge, is it a worthwhile combination?

Another suggestion is to shorten the MP podcast, I am always tempted to listen to them but I do jot have enough time to dedicate over 1 hour go a podcast. But I rekon some people may enjoy the lengthy podcasts.

Suggestions for Modular Podcast: - Add a table of contents with links to sections of the video (inspired by Gus Elizondo wanting them shorter). - Introduce the show generally before you introduce the monthly subject. For instance: What is the show about? What do you discuss? Mention the table of contents and that people can skip to parts relevant to them. Etc etc - Each Host/Guest should take about 30 seconds at the begining of the show to introduce them selves and who they are. What their experience is. WHat projects they are working on and then maybe get into what new modules they got. This is good for first time viewer that have zero context as to who you all are and why people should be watching or trusting them. - If you have a special guest, ask them a few background questions before you get started. Again, who are they? What is their experience? How long have they been doing ewhat they're doing. How did they get into what they are doing? People watching may have no idea who someone is. This sets context for the viewer. - Make sure all guests have decent microphones and audio with no feedback. This is a show about audio after all.
