Hello,

I hope you're all well. I'm still coming down off the back of all the excitement of RND STEP. It's been lovely to see many of you here and the wider modular scene grab a RND STEP on release and a few patches start to make their way online. NOTE - if you grabbed any DivKid module and make things with it that you share online, tag me so I can share it too! The idea of releasing, announcing and putting out the video demo all at once was so we could all share in the excitement of releasing something new and so that anyone that wanted the module could have it without having to wait too long.

For anyone that missed RND STEP or for those generally curious, the video demo, links to stores stocking it (some stock is still around) and info is all here - https://bit.ly/RNDSTEP . As I do for any modular demo I really tried to make the video a lesson in sample and hold in general, so I hope at the very least it sparks some ideas and interest for those core functions with modules you maybe already have. For those of you at the $5+ tier I made an additional PDF "patch cookbook" with lots of details from the concepts of the patches, through to the very specific patch notes. That's here - https://www.patreon.com/posts/exclusive-rnd-38138813

Last week I had the pleasure of joining the Single Malt Synthesis live stream with Hainbach & Konstantine alongside guest KNOBs! (of pedal demo bliss and Blooper fame) and we spoke about looping techniques and generally hung out as the shows are intended. I tried out the Future Sound Systems Brunswick (for the first time, dirty little thing, much fun) with the Chase Bliss & KNOBs Blooper into the BugBrand PTDelay. Controlling that with an Arturia Keystep was good fun for jamming along with everyone on the stream and using the modifiers on the Blooper to pitch shift and build chordal tones and beds. I'll be exploring all of that more in the future. You can watch that stream back here - https://youtu.be/ZzFB_D52qcE and for those just wanting to check out the jam skip in to 02:05:30 (2 hours, 5 mins, 30 seconds ... yes it was a long stream!).

On the note of fine Germany experimental music practitioners (Hainbach) I should mention his brand new app Fundamental made with sonicLAB. I've been testing this for some time now and I've made a bank of presets for you all which I'll be giving away through my new Gumroad store. I'm also working on a video which I'll release as soon as I can (this week) showing Fundamental in context with the presets I've made.

So onto today's video ... here's THUMP a 6HP Vactrol based LPG/VCA with added distortion. It's a quirky module that goes through a rich, thick kind of sound at times to one that's brighter and raspy, or slightly dark and lo fi too. I met Harry from Cereal Instruments that makes these not long after his first module MESH (a passive attenuator, mixer, splitter) was released, when he came along to the Modular Meets Electric Spring event I held back in February. It's always great to see someone new getting into making modules and it's a pleasure to use and share my experience with Thump in the demo. Video details all below, lots (really really lots and lots) of new videos to do and work to come so chat soon.

All the best! Ben.

VIDEO DETAILS

Here’s the new THUMP Eurorack module from Cereal Instruments. It’s a 6HP Vactrol based LPG / VCA with added distortion and character. A rotary switch let’s you select VCA mode and 3 increasingly steep filtering options. There’s two inputs with a crossfader, CV input for the gate level and a make up gain control. It distorts and adds a quirky character easily but backing off amp CV and gain lets you clean things up.

It’s out now with info and availability here - https://bit.ly/cerealTHUMP
