Hello,

tonight at 8pm UK BST*** we have the next episode of SINGLE MALT SYNTHESIS with guest Peter Blasser of Ciat Lonbarde.

*** that's - 9pm EU CEST, 12pm USA West coast PDT, 3pm USA east coast

Single Malt Synthesis is a live stream series created by Hainbach and Konstatine who originally joked in a Skype chat years ago that "they'd hung out in real bars worse than this" and from there they wanted to hangout and have a whiskey and that's morphed into the new series of live streams. I came onboard early and am the permanent third wheel of the whiskey tricycle. For any that missed those videos we hung out a couple of times before launching into multiple marathon streams for Superbooth and have since talked about looping techniques and had multiple guests.

The show tonight will be a rare one ... Peter Blasser of Ciat Lonbarde will join us (he's not known to be that active online anywhere) for the show and I'd like to offer the opportunity to ask any questions up front. We'll collate these questions before the show and add them into our notes, Hainbach is asking his Patreon supporters too.

So simply leave a comment with a question for Peter and we'll try to get them all into the show.

Also I'll be live streaming with Chris Meyer of Learning Modular TOMORROW Saturday the 27th of June at 8pm UK BST (same time zones as outlined for tonights show above). This time we'll be launching into a new mini series "Feeding the Tardis" following on from the Feeding the Monster series this time we'll be looking at Chris' live performance system. I'll post more about that tomorrow though.

Hopefully see some of you this evening in the live chat and/or tomorrow evening too.

Cheers! Ben.

Single Malt Synthesis chat with Peter Blasser (Tocante, Ciat-Lonbarde)

In which we sit down for a chat and drink with one of the most insteresting instrument designers of recent times, Peter Blasser. Peter is most well know for Ciat-Lonbarde, beautiful wooden semi-modular synthesizers, which I personally play a lot and love. His contribution to the world of music performance can in my mind not be understated, as his instruments are meant to be played and experienced live. Hi Ben, this is a real coup! Respect! In one of the the docs on youtube Peter talks about his relationship with the qualities of the different woods he uses. I was wondering if he has a similar relationship with the materiality of the components he uses, the resistors, capacitors etc. Does he relate to them in that way too? i.e. do they produce similar associations for him? It would also be interesting to know how he knows when an instrument is "finished" i.e. ready for use by someone other than himself. They seem so open-ended that you could imagine the possibility of endlessly tweaking the design. How much of a design is planned in advance and how much evolves through iteration? How long does he play with something before others get to try it. Following on from that does he have beta-testers or trusted musicians or anyone whose opinions he values as input into the design process or does he work away on his own before putting things into the world? Don't feel like you need to ask him all of these questions! I know it'll be an interesting session regardless. Thanks, Dennis.
