“Joey” may not be Shel Silverstein’s most well known poem, but I’ll never forget it. This is one of my first pen and ink drawings in a long time, because I wasn’t going to give my dad a jpeg for his 80th birthday.

Hilarious, horrifying, and thoughtful. Well done.

Good dad but awkward execution

Of the art or of the choice of poem? Because of it’s the latter, if we didn’t start with one that blew up in our faces, I wouldn’t remember it decades later. I think embracing failure is part of being a parent, but I’ll never have to know since I’m never having kids.

Boy, it's like you never lost your spark with ink pen drawings... wait, what am I saying, you DEFINITELY haven't. Sometimes parents make mistakes when trying to support their kids, but it's nice to have that story to remember; it sounds like you and your Dad are real close. I hope he had a great birthday!
