The training we have for this week that I have shared with you was about the Import Manager Add-in. If you have not seen it yet, you can view it right here on YouTube.

Now that the training has been released, I am looking for your feedback to make this even better, just for you, our incredible Patreon Members.

So, what Feature can I add for you? Did you find an issue you want me to fix? Or is there a particular area you would like me to focus on?

Please comment your ideas and feedback to any  of these below and I will do my best to not only create an updated workbook but release a private training video next Monday, right here on Patreon.

I have a idea but not sure how to implement in a genearl addin where I would need an aplication specific macro to be added somehow but would make a suggestion that on the format field you allow for more complex text manipulation for strings. Add an option to run a macro by using the format field to be a name of a function in VBA. Then that function name can be passed to a handler function along with an argument and do an application.run to execute and return whatever. I have a situation where text fields need to be manipulated with both character substitution and reordering like Day Month Year to Month Day Year but not with the English calendar and also need some puctuation added. Would be greate to do the conversions on imprt to eliminate the need to process in the destination program. Not sure of the implemenation to get the macro name in the format fields efficiently or to determine when to run instead of the standard format conversions you implemented but I have some ideas but you are the master of detials. Just a start of some brainstorming.

To add to my previous note, I think the macro would be in the destination file. The application.run can be written to access a function in a module in that workbook. Need a way to have the addin append the macro name to the list of formats and clear these so they don't get saved on close.

Hoi Randy, Is it possible to start with another row than row 2 (below the headers)? Macro's are very helpfull for repetive tasks, is it therefore possible to store some templates for import and choose one of them in the userform?

Excel For Freelancers

Hi Henk, thanks for your comment. It is assumed that the first row of data is below the headers. A unique situation would require additional code modifications. Concerning the Import Template, yes, this is a highly requested feature and I will be adding this as well. Thanks again for your great suggestions

Excel For Freelancers

Hi Malcolm, I think anything is certainly possible, including these custom features, however it would have to be managed on a case-by-case basis as these are very specific and hard to apply some general rules and programming that could be used by everyone. Thanks again for your great suggestion

Excel For Freelancers

Yes it is possible however its extremely detailed and unique so it is something that would be a custom update to this addin. Thanks again

Hi Randy, this is great. I just have one comment one of my worksheets has 30 columns so the mapping form expands larger than my screen size. Would be handy if a vertical scroll bar on the form or a left mouse hold so I could move the form up to let me get to the last mapping rows and the command buttons.

Hi Steven, thanks so much for your comment. Yes for sure, this was mentioned by others. The update must have the ability to scroll and it will as that is really implortant. Thanks again for your continued support

Is there a dynamic way of Excluding Rows of data? For instance if the data on the source sheet has sub headers or other information on row 10, Row 20 etc. that is not relevant data that needs to be imported. I also like the other member suggestions about import templates for mapping.

Excel For Freelancers

HI Brent, thanks for the message. I will be adding a filter option along with the template idea into the update coming this Monday to help you filter out data that you do not want imported. I hope this helps and thanks so much.

Hi Randy, Somehow i was thinking you recently made something familiar as the the import add-in and i found the "Document merge pro" video. In that video we can select the first and last row for importing data. I'm very much looking forward for the update, succes!

Excel For Freelancers

Absolutely, thanks so much Henk. I am looking forward to sharing this on Monday. Much appreicated
