Wonderful album! Surprisingly, we already knew a lot of songs - perhaps the eras tour and maybe even recent radio play? Either way, we certainly didn't know all 23 🤣 Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!

Yes, a decent number of the songs were on the Eras Tour since this album didn't have its own tour. Probably why you're more familiar with it!

I need that whole auto-tune convo clipped and put on TikTok. I JUST got in an argument about this when someone said they wouldn’t pay to go see Hozier (of ALL people) because he uses auto-tune. Anywayyy, fantastic reaction as usual. I love this album and it PMO people think it’s shit. There is definitely a Taylor for every mood and a mood for every Taylor album. 🫶🫶

Angelique R.

Taylor uses war/battle metaphors quite often in many of her albums made during her relationship with Joe Alwyn. I think it was more on/off (tumultuous) than the public knew. I swear Midnights is a break-up album and they were broken up longer than we thought (or at the very least a long drawn out death of a relationship).

Amanda B

Great way to start my weekend! Loved the reaction!! Midnights is in my Top 5 albums for sure

Angelique R.

Would've Could've Should've is the sequel to Dear John. All the religious imagery refers to John Mayer's apartment which was a converted church with stained glass windows. (Midnights was recorded while she was also doing the re-recordings, including Speak Now, so it's presumed that this song resulted from reliving those feelings.)

Angelique R.

Oh! And the ending of Hits Different talks about they came to take me away and then TTPD starts with "I was supposed to be sent away but they forgot to come and get me."

Allison Garcia

Midnights is the album that brought me back to Taylor after a few years not listening. And specifically “Maroon”. That’s one of my favorite songs she’s done!

Lizel

The thing about Midnights is that we only really "got" it after TTPD was released. We stupidly thought that TTPD was going to be the Joe break-up album only to realize that it was Joe-ver on Midnights already. Midnights wàs the Joe break-up album and could only be fully analyzed and fully appreciated in hindsight. If you haven't checked out the music videos for this era, please do. They are really worth the time. To answer a few of your questions: * You can definitely hear that Taylor was struggling on this album. * When Snow on the Beach was first released the fans were upset that Lana was not featured more prominently. They went back in the booth to record a "more" Lana version of the song. * Max Martin has this melodic math that he uses to make any pop song. Jack is just a wonderfully quirky dude and we love him for that. He is super intelligent and interesting when you listen to him talk about music. I think he and Taylor have a really special bond and they get each other. Taylor is just a dork at heart. * You guys were right about William Bowery. It is the pseudonym that Joe Alwyn used when writing songs with Taylor. Honestly the song Sweet Nothing has always felt to me like it was left over from Folklore or Evermore. It really does not feel like it fits on Midnights 🫣 * After Taylor and Travis started dating she changed the lyrics of Karma when she performed it on the Eras tour. She started singing "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me" instead of the original "Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me". * Bigger than the Whole Sky is believed to be about pregnancy loss. Or just loss in general. Fans really love the song and obviously have their own feelings they feel when hearing it. * I'm sure you know already, but if you didn't... Would've Could've Should've is the sister song to Dear John. It's Taylor writing about John Mayer at the age he was when he messed with her. It's a very popular song, mostly because of the "give me back my girlhood, it was mine first" lyric. I think a lot of women can relate to that. Losing your girlhood to an undeserving man. * Hits Different is the precursor to Fortnight from TTPD. In Hits Different she sings "I heard your key turn in the door down the hallway Is that your key in the door? Is it okay? Is it you? Or have they come to take me away?" And then Fortnight starts with: "I was supposed to be sent away But they forgot to come and get me"

I know you guys aren’t lyricists, but The Great War was hard to watch.

Rachel Shields

It’s her voice slowed down on midnight rain but it’s him on some of the tracks on midnights, It’s a guy who goes by sounwave who also works with Kendrick Lamar quite a bit and in red hearse with Jack and Jack also worked with Kendrick on Kendrick’s last album.

Rachel Shields

If you let us tell you about the songs-I have dibs on “Better Man” for red and “tis the damn season” for evermore. Let it be known that I have staked my claim on telling you guys about two of my top 5 Taylor songs.

Jo

I so want to support this channel, but this felt like watching teenage boys make random noises and stupid 'jokes' for more than an hour, which is...not how I want to spend my time ya know? Take it at least a LITTLE BIT seriously. Cooley's obsession with everything being about Travis (FYI, nothing on this album has anything to do with Travis) is also getting increasingly weird. It seems like a lot of fans are really trying hard to help you guys out with background/context and you clearly don't care about any of it (except the part where we're paying you, and there are now other more thoughtful and respectful creators doing Taylor videos). Time for me to peace out, I think.

Lauri

I’m going to watch/listen to this in an hour while my TV is on mute watching my beloved Mariners hopefully don’t implode. 😜💙⚾️💚

Sandy Johnson

“Sweep that bitch!” 😂😂😂 you guys crack me up!! Thanks for making my work day entertaining.

Sandy Johnson

William Bowery is her former boyfriend Joe Alwyn. For whatever reason he used a pseudonym

gigi

hey i love you guys and your reactions but i do admit i wish you’d pay a tiny bit more attention to the lyrics! even if you had the genius lyrics pulled up so you even just read the gist of what the song is about, i think it would make your taylor journey more enjoyable for you guys and for us! just some friendly suggestions, hope you guys are having a great week!

Rachel Shields

I always share this story anytime someone listens to bigger than the whole sky because it’s the most powerful and intense and emotionally charged reaction to a song I’ve ever experienced in my life and I don’t think I will again. A little less than a year before midnights came out I had stillborn identical twins named Ezra and Ever. I went to bed after listening to the standard midnights and found out about 3am on the way to work which is over an hour drive. So I listened from the start. I was very much in a state a grief and I remember on that drive thinking “I can’t relate to her anymore, I’m too fucked up now”. As I was pulling into the parking lot, “bigger than the whole sky” came on. The sound that came out of my mouth when I heard “did some force take you because I didn’t pray” wasn’t human. I sat in the parking lot ugly sobbing uncontrollably crying harder than I had ever for 2 hours before I drove home (I never even got out. I called in). No one had ever put into words what it felt like until she did and she was already my favorite artist ever and she gave me the most beautiful gift in that song that I don’t listen to except when people are reacting. Also the quick sound at the beginning is the sound of a sonogram with no heartbeat. There’s thoughts that this is about Taylor’s close friend who had a stillbirth. The salt rolling into your ears is cause you’re on the ultrasound table still listening to that sound that you’ll never forget. (Edit to add: genius and Wikipedia both state this is likely the topic of this song, though unconfirmed. She has only played it as a surprise song after a girl died at her show in Brazil) Taylor Swift has never proven me wrong so fast in my life though on being able to relate and once the grief cleared more, I adored midnights. She’s incredible But that im never going to meet what could’ve been would’ve been. What should’ve been you. Here’s the bad. That was so hard to watch. I almost bailed. Also it was not fair no one warned you on that one cause it’s a serious one and a lot of women have extremely intense reactions to it like me and you guys missed it 100% 🤦🏼‍♀️ not going to lie…I listened to that for no reason…but you should have been told not to ignore the lyrics. We know you don’t pay attention. But you gotta do better on something like that. If you need to ask us if there’s songs like that ahead of time…do. Ronan on red is about a child who dies of cancer. So you have been warned there. I still love you guys. 1 miss out of ???

Lauri

Love it! Always enjoy your album reactions and being introduced to new things. I know Taylor is not new, but I was on the same fence as JT in the early days so I’m still a Swifties innocent.

Grace Behr

Thanks Cooley for mentioning the Sunshine Skyway! Much love from this Florida girl! 🫶🏻

Mary (onlyeverthus)

I don't think I saw anybody mention this, but fun little tidbit (though you guys may already know, lol), for one of the shows in Buenos Aires in November 2023, during Karma she changed the line "karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me" to "karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me" and everyone lost their minds, including her dancers (and Travis, there's some really great videos of him in the tent with Taylor's dad, and when Taylor sings that line, Scott is just clapping him on the back and Travis is all surprised and smiley), it was such a great moment. I believe it was the first show Travis went to after they made their relationship public, but I could be wrong about that. I think she usually changed the lyric at the shows he attended.

Bex

I am all for the way JT and Cooley want to listen to music. It’s why I came here. They have been transparent and authentic and have extensive musicianship. They HEAR things that I may not and explain what I may not know. I have personally always felt lyrics are for each person…that’s a private personal journey for me. I honestly get irritated at other channels trying to interpret lyrics. That’s me! And they’ve been upfront about not being lyric focused since day 1. Keep doing you TTES. You know I’ll be here 🫶

Mallory

In reading the comments, I’d like to say that first, I’m a fellow lyric girlie (I’m an Elder Emo, after all), and I still don’t understand many of Taylor’s lyrics from her pov (that just isn’t my journey to know all about her) or even relate to many of them. I sometimes relate; more often I like how her words “sound” to the ear, much like poetry; or how they evoke images; and sometimes, like they’re just a fictional book I’m reading, and I’ve become hopelessly invested. All of this to say it’s a practice, so to speak, I’ve honed over the years, that I know not everyone wants to do/cares about. Now music? Girl. I wish I understood it. And that’s where JT and Cooley step in. They point shit out in the instrumentation/vocals/producing that I’ve never noticed (and sometimes still can’t hear lol). Could they have been more in tune with lyrics? Sure, maybe. But we still don’t truly with 100% certainty know what BTTWS is about; and if you’re someone who doesn’t immediately grasp/connect with lyrics, I can see how any interpretation could bypass you, much like music does with me.

Yousra

William Bowery is Joe alwyn, her boyfriend at the time (he's a english actor), they started writing songs together during the pandemic (he has writing credits in folklore, evermore) and it continued on into Midnights. He used the pseudonym at first so that people will enjoy the songs for what they are. Taylor later revealed it was him and he did go into how he chose the pseudonym in an interview at some point.

Axel Varela

Hey guys! Please consider reacting to Lady Gaga’s ARTRAVE Ball concert in Paris France. It’s by far my favorite concert ever!

Brianna Jaris

For labyrinth, her wordsmithing for "breathe", "break" are stupendous

aRI Swiftie

"Karma is the guy on the Chiefs!" as Taylor sang on the Eras tour

Ghadeer

Please react to Olivia Dean new album The Art Of Loving!! Hands down ALBUM OF THE YEAR. I know you’ll love it.

Brianna Jaris

The last line of It Hits Different, "is that your key in the door? is that you, or have they come to take me away?". And when you listen to the opening line of Fortnight, which is the opening song for TTPD (the album following midnights), both of those lines follow in succession of each other. And that was done intentionally. Again, yes mother can hint at things 3 years in advance...

Hamada Noureddine

Too much talking over the songs. Missing out a lot from the production

Jenna Bolmgren

This has prob already been said a zillion times but You’re Losing Me is the official album closer as a “vault track” 💙 happy 3 yr midnights anniversary to all who celebrate!

Brianna Jaris

my fav songs are the "til dawn side b deluxe tracks". i love the main album, but prefer the back half (deluxe)

Sara B.

I’m soooo late but I loved the reaction. I’m the worst swifte in the world and hadn’t listened to the deluxe version(s) of the album so that was fun. Keep twerkin 🤪

NJNancy

Came over from Showgirl & FF straight to Hits Different. One of my fave TS songs. She mashed up Death by a Thousand Cuts & Hits Different in London N1 or 2. She did a Mega bridge. BTW - I love watching Carter Beauford play drums!!

Ida

This is my fave album and I loved the reaction, but the Great War deserved more 😭

Julie

This is considered her "stoner album" by her 420 fans. She has said that the album was based on the writing prompt 'What keeps you up at night?'

Leah

I've never listened to the deluxe editions of this album. But hearing Glitch for the first time I kept starting to song the Wishlist lyrics. I'm sure the similarities had to be deliberate in her part

Raquel Derfler

Pretty sure it’s Jack on the backing vocals

Richard

Did you listen to the vault song You're Losing Me?

Leah

Has anyone else noticed that Glitch sounds a looooot like Wishlist??

Mitchell LaCombe

Yall missed You’re Losing Me! It’s one of her best songs from Midnights!

littlemssunshine

The drums on the first song are real. It was Jack and Dominik Rivinius on snare.

Lisa (Personalized By LD)

Bigger then the whole sky is actually a heart breaking song about loss, many have likened this song to loosing a baby, a miscarriage… it’s low and slow to make you hear every word, first time I heard this song I was grieving the loss of my first dog, we lost him way to soon and this song was felt down to my core. That’s what Taylor does. She writes songs that so many can relate to regardless of their story.. anyways. I love watching your reactions, you do miss lots with all the chatter/jokes stuff, but you do get most of the music stuff so I respect it. 💜

Tony Rayas

You missed half of The Great War doing research

Alli Cohen

I love this album so much

Alli Cohen

Also. I volunteer as Swiftie to sit and listen with you to explain the lore as it comes up

Alli Cohen

I feel like i hear the backing vocals more when i listen with you guys. Is there some setting i need to turn on?!

Alli Cohen

Hits different feels very 1989 vault track

Athena Jones

The concept of this album is 13 Sleepless nights (the original album). Most of them NOT for happy reasons. You’re right on that. And that’s how she has an album for everyone in whatever phase of life they’re in. And she totally engulfs you in those feelings by matching the sound, lyrics, and even aesthetic to enhance them. Swifties have a saying “anyone who doesn’t like Taylor Swift just hasn’t needed her yet.” (Or found the album they need)

Denise Iglesias

OMG sometimes I wish you guys would just listen to the music.

Cara M

Coming to you from the future. She literally was never the problem (re anti hero)
