I do it when I'm annoyed with gunking up my inears/earplugs with wax. Hydrogen peroxide in normal concentrations. Just tip your head on the side and dribble some in. It'll foam up and get *really* warm but not like painful or anything. It'll expand, so get like a paper towel to wipe it up as it goes. Maybe 2-3 cycles and you're set. I don't notice the hearing change so much as its nicer for the ear accessories. And I kinda like the feeling lol.
