This was the most mediocre episode so far

I love Samurai Champloo, but i can't deny that the anime indeed has some problems. Especially the very first episodes. Biggest being that some episodes are self contained episodes with their own stories, while also mostly being lighthearted and funny that don't actually contribute much to the characters and the whole story. Not every episode of these kind are automatically bad though. Later on we get some very good arc's with very memorable stories and very unique soundtracks.

I think the 2nd half of the show is much better than the 1st half. The first 12 is always tough for me to binge personally.

This is a problem with watching shows like Cowboy Bebop and then this one (right) after. If it were up to me, I would've done it backwards. My point being, if one starts venturing into something new by experiencing some of the best that new genre has to offer, then one can't help but hold anything that comes after to a certain standard. And make no mistake, I LOVE Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop, but I'd recommend watching the former before the latter (I'd even throw other shows in between) to at least generate a more "palatable" sense of progression. It's kind of hard to maintain a sense of excitement if one starts with peak, is what I mean. Idk, apologies for the rambling, hahah. This show is still amazing and it will pickup as it continues!

Lol, as soon as you say 'mediocre', everybody starts defending this shit: 'I love it, but...', 'The problem is...', 'I think...'. It’s fine — I don’t think there’s a problem. Different stuff speaks to different people. I loved it. And I especially enjoyed your laughs. There was at least one interesting subtle thing dropped, though, about one of our main characters. Jin said he never beat his master in Shogi, but when the guy inquired how he measured up against him with the sword, Jin remained silent.

I remember this show have a bit of a slow start, slower than Cowboy Bebop for sure. And any real fan will agree with episodic stuff some of them will be meh but the end of this show makes everything worth it imo

I think this show has a slow start but gets better in the second half.
