Level of Psycho Pass on those sound effects are subject to Lethal Eliminator. My ears just exploded on 1st 5 minutes lol. Amazing episode 🥸🗿

In the dialogue in this episode at least, Makishima indicated that he himself did not know why his crime coefficient did not go up and that it had simply always been that way (up to you whether you believe this is truthful/correct).

This show hooked me from the start but this is when I was truly hooked. They already hit us with how the systems is flawed with a lot of examples of people being criminals when they shouldnt but what about the opposite?

For a lot of people, this episode solidified the series as something special. That confrontation at the end drives it home that over-reliance on AI and technology diminishes human capacity to make our own judgements. That blind adherence to authority makes us soft. Makishima makes for an alluring villain because he puts so much value on personal freedom, even if it means having some chaos. And those points seem more and more valid because we notice all the shortcomings. "Why should I follow this system if my best friend ends up dead because of it?" Makishimia's brain gives our brains the brain proteins. 🧠 He's up there for me in terms of great villains, along with the antagonists from "Monster" and "Ghost in the Shell: SAC" season 1 and a few others.

Knowing the full story and being a bit older really helped me grasp what Makishima and the show is all about. Can't really comment on it yet without going into spoiler territory though. Great episode. That's also the one that hooked me for good back when it aired.

In Psycho Pass world, people believe in rule of law (Sibyl System), especially Akane as an inspector. If she use a real gun instead of Dominator, could count as pure criminal and might even increase her crime level

"looks like the fairy tale died a moment ago" when the ending kicks in this episode with that first lyric it fits perfectly. The fairy tale of the perfect Sybil system died with her friend being killed before her eyes by someone with a perfectly clear Psycho-Pass. We've seen issues with it up to this point, like people being bullied for their cloudy Psycho-Pass leading to a new form of bigotry essentially, but unlike that this isn't some byproduct, it's a baffling instance that makes you doubt the system itself. This also was a different cut of the song, so your ears didn't mislead you. They have very minimally changed up a few times but mostly with how early it starts but this version also had the drawn out final vocal delivery and no piano playing out the end.

For me, Makishima is such an all time great villain

I think the reason being is that he truly believes he's doing good. All the other criminals in the show know they're committing crime / evil acts.
