Thanks so much for being here, everyone!

Midweek, I’m heading to Indianapolis for DCI Finals. If anyone’s in town catching Drumcorps, hit me up! 🎵

Quick update: I gave Madoka Magica a shot… and wow, that one really pushed me out of my zone. Honestly, I was pretty confused why it even made the list after seeing it. I shared my reasons at the end of Episode 2, but I just couldn’t stick with it. That said, I auto-added Castlevania and it immediately clicked—definitely more my style.

I’ll be back from DCI on Sunday, but only at my PC for two days before I'm away for a full two weeks. Just a reminder: Space Dandy, Psycho Pass Season 2, and Uncle from Another World have all been auto-added and are coming soon. I’ll do my best to sprinkle in some of our regular series before I go.

Madoka Mágica is the reason the 3 episode rule was invented…. I highly recommend you at least make your mind up after episode 3 🙏🏽

Top 20 anime of all time but I respect your decision. I mean Vinland and orb I dropped after an episode 😭

I got a physical headache from their voices, horrible audio experience. The cast of characters has no interest to me. "top" is relative. If you dropped Orb and Vinland after 1 episode and you think middle school magic girls is top 20, its VERY clear that you have an extremely different taste in episodic media than myself. That is fine, but I just cant sit through it.

There’s a crazy plot twist in episode 3 that just changes everything in that show but I understand your reasons to not like it. To be fair I gave it a chance this year I never cared for this until one day I got bored and picked it because everyone said it was controversial lol.

I'm not surprised he didn't like Madoka. It's an all time show for me but he was never going to get over the surface presentation lol. The "cute" exterior mixed with the dark and serious storyline doesn't seem to be his type of thing. I think if you simply swapped out the cast with older characters he would love it because the underlying plot and story is incredible, but you have to be open to Madoka's character designs and traits to even get to the point of appreciating the show.

Didn’t realize Madoka was controversial. Granted I saw it when it first came out so there was definitely a lot of hype for it from how well they handle the tone shift. Top 20 for me. Didn’t expect such a fun ride

Called it. Madoka is great but it is a subculture that I didn't think you would enjoy at all lol. If you're interested we can spoil some of the genre tags if you want. I don't think it would change your mind, but I think you'd find it funny what actual tags show up later. (Hint: they match some of probably your favorite shows on the Patreon)

I don't think his problem was with the actual story, it sounds like he just couldn't get past the characters being middle school girls lol. Alana Misako just did a great reaction to Madoka if you are looking for something recent though.

Couldn’t be less surprised about Madoka. I’ve been wrong about others that ended up going over well but that felt 100% like a doomed endeavor. Excited for Castlevania 👍

Yeah that's totally fair, everyone has different tastes. Honestly my main thought was hearing you react to the god tier OST so I forgot the actual content wouldn't be your thing XD

I am not surprised. I wasn't a fan of the aesthetic either. While I really appreciate how they tried to break the mold of the genre and use a wild mix of visuals to create something unique, I still think some of the plot was poorly executed and the justification for some of the events felt really cheap and silly to me.

I don't understand the middle school girl thing? He's seen plenty of anime where it's an all girls cast of middle school or high schoolers. He's watched way more anime-esque generic school girl shows that I think would be way too "cutesy" or irritating to people who don't normally consume that stuff. Maybe it's the designs?

To be fair a lot of people with no interest in Magical Girl shows don't think Madoka is for them until episode 3. Considering it's the same guy who wrote Psycho Pass, I can easily see why people wanted Tony to give it a shot.

Oh shit I had no idea you were watching Madoka. That show is a deconstruction of the magical girl anime trope. I'm not surprised you dropped it, considering the content of the show

If Orb forced me to listen to loud airhorns every 3 seconds I wouldn't watch Orb. If he doesnt vibe with elements that are going to be constantly there, it doesnt matter how good it gets.

I mean Urobuchi also wrote Fate Zero, and Tony, very much to my surprise, didn’t Vibe with it too much either. Although I agree that Episode 3 is like the deciding point whether people will enjoy it or not.

Imo, when it comes to anime/animation is less about the age but more about the body proportions/designs. I don't care if the show says they're like a 20 year old or a 1000 year old if they portrayed as a child and they get in situations (sexual for example) that are uncomfortable to watch.
