Once again, this anime goes in winning with furthering the fundamentals! Love itGreat to see the 3 spans of generation here being very successful with information distribution and then immediately to strategy and implementation. I am guessing we are getting spoiled with good stuff, but I hope that future sports anime are as good.

I mean Blue Lock is a good one with all the ego maxing........ We don't talk much about season 2 tho

Only problem with season 2 is the animation, but the entertainment is still there. I just hope there's more frames for season 3 cuz that's when it surpasses itself in the manga. I do hope blue Lock is the next sports anime he watches just to see his thoughts on the complete 180 dynamic on 'teamwork' lol

In Japanese the word Coach Ukai uses for Shrimpy, is "Chibisuke" , Chibi means small or little and suke is usually used as an ending name for japanese males, you would've already heard some before, like Josuke or Ryosuke lol. So it's more like a pipsqueak or lil guy in actual translation but its funny that they use shrimpy hahaha Also maybe oikawa calls hinata "chibichan" lol which is a more friendly way of saying it. Chan usually is used when someone is younger than you, works for both genders but usually used for girls xD

Haikyuu! is definitely one of the better ones out there. I'm talking personally since I prefer sports anime to feel more more grounded in reality so animes like Kuroko no Basket or Blue Lock feel more like I'm watching a battle action anime disguised as sports anime in comparison to Haikyuu. They're still good for different reasons, don't get me wrong, but it's not really what I'm looking for a sports show. My recommendation would be Run with the wind if we're going with a similar feel but yeah, I dont think that's winning soon lol. You might feel different if those get recommended tho, this is just me.

The coach they have now has never been a coach before. The reason the teacher wanted him specifically as the coach was because his grandpa is the OG coach for that school (and the coach for the little giant) and as the grandson of an amazing coach he knows a lot. In the beginning when he was yelling at his grandpa, it was cause gramps had an accident and was recently hospitalized. I think he was supposed to come out of retirement to coach again but said accident happened.

I remember all that. It's still 3 generations of age representing. One is still a coach, every in the first year of the gig

My favorite thing any video game can do well to get me hooked is satisfying, steady but constant progression. That’s probably why doing sports in HS and watching this now feels so rewarding

mojhito5

Man even the training episodes in haikyuu are so rad🔥

I would love if this slot became a "sports" slot going forward. There are of course more "anime" sports shows, but there are many realistic shows in the sense of learning and applying fundamentals. Growing up I was never a sports kid, my parents and grandparents would watch ball games, and I just never could get into it. I was kinda the nerdy, gamer kid. Anime kind of fit my niche and I slowly got into a few sports shows. As dumb as this is going to sound, I realized "Oh, there's a lot more to this than throwing/catching a ball" I realized there's a lot of methodology and passion there. I gradually got more and more into sports in my daily life, and it really opened me up to a lot of experiences and friends I would've probably missed out on during highshcool and later in life otherwise. Team Cycling was what I found my passion in. One of my all time favorites, would be the Hajime no Ippo series (The boxing one you mentioned). Without spoiling anything I think you would really enjoy it based off what you enjoy about Haikyu. And because I can't miss a cycling recommendation, Yowamushi Pedal is a great show in my opinion, though it does have a few definite "Anime" moments sprinkled in haha.

That's very cool that we have someone in cycling in the patreon community

I've truly never watched an anime and thoroughly enjoyed the training arcs and stuff as much as I did with Haikyu, I like that at the same time of it skipping time, it also feels like you are also seeing every bit of development and that you didn't skip a beat, and you see every bit of passion the players have

For more sports anime, and given what you seem to like about sports anime. I would 100% give Baby Steps a go. Its unfortunately not as popular as a lot of other sports anime, so probably wont win a vote. But its my nr.1 sports anime / manga. Haikyuu is about 2nd or 3rd. Baby Steps is a tennis anime. Its very grounded in reality as far as training and progression goes. And is very good at giving each character unique play styles with realistic strengths and weaknesses for said play style. What makes Baby Steps stand out from other sports anime is that it has some of the best characterizations and character development within sports anime. It also, minor spoiler, takes place over a long time. From starting interest in the sport all the way to struggling through a pro career.

I agree, i think sport should have a dedicated slot going forward
