So this episode actually had a pretty freaky plot.Dolls are massively creepy in thriller media settings, so even with the funny dub, it was pretty good.

I watched the first episode with a buddy YEARS ago, and couldn't really get into. I'm definitely enjoying it so much more this time around. It kinda reminds me of something like the boondocks where you'll just get those moments thats smack you out of nowhere 😂

I've watched the original Japanese with subtitles. I actually bought the series on DVD back when it first came out in early 2000's. Watching your reaction video's is the first time I've seen the dub. I enjoyed the original, mostly because I like the fact that it pulls from Japanese folklore and urban legends. And also because I've always liked ghost stories and supernatural based shows. and still do. The DVD's have an extra that gives info on the ghosts for the episodes on that disc. The ghosts (or spirits and yokai) are actually those that Japanese children would have grown up hearing about. Think the boogieman or Bloody Mary for Americans. So since this was originally meant for school age children the scare factor isn't really there for adults, though some of the episodes can be creepy. Also, a lot of the ghost wandering around the old school house come from the "Gakkō no Nanafushigi", or 7 School Mysteries which are popular urban legends and ghost stories passed down among students, often involving spooky or supernatural occurrences. While they vary by school, common tales include toilet ghosts, moving statues, and haunted classrooms - The moving anatomical model, Hanako -san of th toilet, the Ninomiya Statue (the stone statue with the book), the haunted music room are some common ones. The producers at ADV realized it wouldn't market well to adults, since it was originally aimed at kids. Streaming wasn't a thing yet so most anime was hard copy only. And anime for kids that was on TV was heavily localized and mostly popular franchises (Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon) even Robotech (SDF Macross) was a localized version , so doing a regular dub probably wouldn't have sold. So they did the parody instead to market it for adults and put the original on the discs as well for those who might want to check it out. And yes the original is available on Crunchyroll, I've watched on there before as well. I watch with Roku on TV so I don't know if it works the same on their website but I changed the audio to Japanese from the settings on the first episode and the subtitle/cc says none, but it has the english subs on screen.
