What a great ending. FAR TOO MUCH to type, so all my thoughts are throughout the reaction and at the end after the ending music. I really enjoyed Monster, and it was outstanding to have this type of anime on the Patreon. Thanks to everyone who spent time in here with me watching this over the past 4 months. With that being said, make sure to let us know what you would like next on Tier 3 so we can get that vote going and I hope you stick around. Thank you!

Hajime no ippo please, it's about boxing, one of the best sports anime of all time

2nd Hajime No Ippo. Its a long series so tier 3 makes it easier to binge and its one of the greats in the sports genre.

Still suggesting Mushishi, hoping someday it gets the W 🥳

Mike

One piece - it's a quick watch. Should be done by 2036.

Would be cool if you would open MAL after watching the last episode of an anime and give your rating + explanation on video!

Hunter x Hunter Feels like a really good fit for Tier 3

God, its so eerily fitting that one of the final moments we get for the series is seeing the literal moment of "Sophie's Choice" at the end. A moment in which a mother has to weigh which of her two children have to be given a very negative outcome. I would not be surprised if Monster's author took direct inspiration from the 1979 novel.

Funny that you mentioned that. I did rate it and set as complete. No time to write on everything tho. That is what the reactions are for

Mike

Ah yeah I meant explaning the score in the video.

Will you be doing a reaction to the full version of the ending song? I know your main focus is always the music, but I would also be interested in you finally hearing the lyrics since netflix only uses the instrumental.

He's quoted as stating specifically though that for Monster, The Fugitive and Frankenstein were some of the inspirations for his story as he really wanted to do a medical drama about a doctor on the run. He loves foreign films however so I don't doubt that Sophie's Choice could have been added in there.

Hajime no Ippo, Hunter x Hunter

Hermit

Mushishi all the way. Its a hidden gem that I'm sure many people here would enjoy

We never found out the "real" names that the mother gave them. Which is fitting with the themes of the series about identity and how it's (not necessarily) tied to a name.

Easily one of the greatest anime of all time, such great story telling and cast of characters, not to mention one of the best villains.

I think what's important for a show to be good, for me, is if the characters are written believably for the rules the show makes. It can be outrageous hyper fantasy but the characters have to be consistent within mindsets, circumstances, and actions. Scenes have to be a result of characters responding in ways that follow their path, like a physics simulation. When characters start acting out of character, it's like watching poorly represented physics. It's jarring. This was a very long winded way to say: Monster is a great show, because it chooses to be very grounded, and is written in such a way that the twists and turns feel earned through well written characters, rather than arbitrary actions that lead to "shocking" outcomes.
