This is like an educational documentary with a great anime storyline. Very impressed with this series so far. I am a massive animal guy, so it's sad to think about what will happen to the bear, but it also makes 100% sense for the situation and culture. I feel like this is one of the better 'treasure map' tropes I have experienced. I know we are only 3 episodes in, but I am very much enjoying it. LOL bro got his face r i p p e d OFF by the 🐻Sheeeeesh! The ending of the episode was wild AF! The soldier with the mask is intense as it gets. Very curious to learn more about him.

You're in for a treat as far as getting to know characters. Some absolutely tremendous character writing in this show, it's is really what sets it apart imo

"The Revenant" is the movie where Leonardo DiCaprio gets some rough foreplay from a bear.

Super excited to hear your thoughts on the OST and the openings and endings for this show

"No matter how old he gets, a boy loves to swing around a sword" takes on more meaning when you know that Hijikata tought himself how to fight

Just looked it up. The instrument the kid was playing is called a "mukkuri". A japanese plucked idiophone indigenous to the Ainu people.

Unlike a battle shounen, Golden Kamuy is very compelling because it is so many things. I remember being very interested episode to episode and really enjoying it, but over time it just elevates more and more. On this rewatch I'm already starting to catch details that now I have more context for after seeing later episodes which is extra satisfying. Also the animal stuff is definitely tough but I appreciate the context the show gives. Unrelated but I also have a Sicilian grandmother and my mom would always tell us how terrifying she was growing up but then when it came to her grandkids she spoiled us and my mom was always like "I don't know what happened" because she would put the fear of death into my mom and her siblings. I don't remember if I ever made my grandma mad but as one of the youngest I think I just saw from the older grandkids, grandma is sweet but you do what she says the first time. My grandpa on that side was also Sicilian and he was in no way a pushover but grandma called the shots 100%.
