Thank you so much for helping offset the cost of the items that were stolen from my car. I truly appreciate you. Quick note. If you are on iOS, it is cheaper to subscribe through Patreon on a web browser to avoid the Apple App Store fee. Android users are all set in the app.

These anime films are incredibly good at hitting you in the feels with heavy emotion. Sheeeesh! I went in not knowing what this one was about, but at this point, I’m starting to assume most of them are going to be emotionally heavy and really rewarding story-wise. Track and field is honestly the perfect setting for something like this, because everyone can relate to running in some form. We’ve all been in a race, literally or metaphorically. It makes it a great way to explore adversity, personal goals, and how different people find their own reasons to keep moving forward. I don’t want to say too much for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, but it’s a great watch.

Amazing reaction. By the way on the animation style they used rotoscope animation which basically is actually capturing a live scene and then animate it frame by frame. Looks awesome.

Edgar Lopez

ayy let’s go, can’t wait for this reaction!

The manga for this and orb were done by the same person, so that's why the art style is similar.

So this is rotoscoping animation, where they essentially animated frame by frame of a irl scene. It's quite tricky cause if it's not done well then it can be really jarring and look awful. Thankfully this movie pulled it off and is probably the best rotoscoping I've seen in anime. Yup this was made by the same mangaka as Orb. 100 meters was his previous work

Lixien

Not the same animation studio but same author as Orb so the character designs are similar.

52:44 "Don't think too deeply, don't take society seriously, don't be defensive, and attack even if you win." Whole speech was 10 out of 10. Felt like an Orb moment. Made me stop the movie and go outside for a brief run.

I really like the way the author uses these characters as a tool for expressing different philosophical thoughts and concepts, like there's so much contrast with all characters just like orb and the most fun part is all these characters interacting with each other and tackle the same problem, the 100m / the truth in orb. Peak.

Also, Anxiety is not something to be dealt with, Life is filled with possibilities to lose, that's where the charm of life is. Fear is not unpleasant, safety is not pleasant, anxiety arises when you test yourself against yourself. If one must offer something for glory, giveup your life which is a mere mismatch of cells. Absolute goosebumps 🔥

Ahh something new to me, I don’t usually go for sports at all, anime or otherwise. But I’m happy to support and expand my horizons Post watching now and I gotta say that was a brilliant film. I truly enjoyed every second of it and my absolute favorite thing about it is we don’t know who won. So many good gems about life and why we try anything at all. 10/10 movie for me and I’m glad to have experienced it here

It was said below but to reiterate this animation is mostly rotoscoped. Which is where they film it first, and then draw over the film. So you get all the natural movement. Animators have done this since the 20’s but it’s really easy to blow the effect and not use it correctly. Lot of anime use rotoscoping for a scene or two. Famously chainsaw man season one rotoscoped A LOT and that made manga fans very mad Once you see rotoscoping and hear it named, you’ll recognize it every single time going forward. Its very distinct

I hope Uoto is happy knowing 2 of his greatest works (right now) have awesome anime adaptations... Hes only 28 so i hope he can make more incredible manga... this movie is awesome fr

i rly don't want to be the guy saying that, but i still will. this movie is much much worse than the manga, with a lot of the scenes and internal monologues being cut, which makes the movie genuinely feel empty and the message becomes much weaker. all of the characters were reduced to particles, their motivation is very vague and a lot of the scenes don't make sense at all, without the context that is given in the manga. obviously it does not deny the amazing visual part of the movie, but storywise it is just awful. i really wish the manga was translated to english so that more people would read it and understand that, but i think only 7 chapters are translated atm sadly. still, if anyone is interested, you should read these 7 chapters and wait for everything else to be translated. then you will understand the characters much better.

One thing I didn't feel was empty. I don't know of any media that hits as hard as the source material.

mojhito5

it's fine man, no problem with that at all. it feels empty for me because I think that the movie does not make you sympathize with the characters at all. this is because we never see their thought process and what they are going through in their heads, which is weird because we see it in other animes all the time, especially in sports titles. thus, the character development for me is just non-existent in this movie. a lot of questions occur for which there are just no answers given. like screw 7 chapters, you may read just the first chapter alone and get much more of Togashi's character there. imo you dont have to look far: orb is the media that hits not just as hard, but a lot harder than the source material, because they paced it properly with 62 chapters of manga being fit into 25 whole episodes of anime, which is around 550 mins. this time, they decided to squeeze a 40 chapter manga in just a 100 minutes. that's insane for me.

Thank you for your reaction video! I felt that this film was asserting that in today's world, where our daily lives are filled with all kinds of pleasures and ways to kill time, being serious about something is the most noble and enjoyable thing of all. It was a very new /modern and wonderful presentation of values. It reminded me that being passionate about something and competing with others still has such a primitive and universal value, even now, or perhaps especially now. I am happy that another wonderful anime has been released into our world! Anime has a wide range of expression, and the passion that goes into it always delights me.

Just wanted to say, Patreon is really bad about making users aware when paid posts are available, and the only reason I was even aware you posted this was because of your youtube post about it. The Look Back one I had seen because it was pinned at least. This one didn't show up in the "anime movie" category for me until I purchased it, and I when I looked to see if it was anywhere on my feed the only place it had visibility was on the top of the right sidebar listed as "popular product" but the moment you start scrolling down a little, other patreon UI covers it up. All this to say, I'd recommend whenever you post a movie like this, maybe put a free post on your main patreon feed to let everyone be aware that it's there with a link like you did on youtube. I'm sure there are people who are thinking it's coming and not realizing it's been posted. Just figured I'd give you the user facing experience for reference.

You definitely experience injuries in sports anime differently once you've had an injury in real life that changes your trajectory. It's been over a decade and I still remember a coworker telling me I should just find a different career, which was definitely not the comfort I was looking to hear. I wish that more fiction tackled these kinds of things.
