Absolute fire episode! Indiana Jones mining car action and then suddenly... the last supper 🤣I don't think I have seen a show that mixes in such ridiculous moments followed by tragedy seconds later as well as this one.

Lots of details thrown out there in this episode as well. Ogata tells everyone in the room "the fakes were probably made using these six bodies" and then at the end Tsurumi says Edogai gave his life to bring him five fake skins. There was some other stuff I could point out that I wouldn't say is a spoiler but better to just not say and then later can bring it up in hindsight like "hey remember when blah blah blah"

The Ezo Republic. Formed by the remnants of the Shogun's forces after their defeat in the Boshin War, it was the first ever Democratic government in Japan. It was annexed by the Japanese empire 5 months after its founding.

Can you imagine being a studio animator receiving the reference material for Edogai's scenes?

I tried watching Golden Kamuy some years ago because I had heard about the cool premise, but I eventually dropped it because I got easily confused by the "tone" and couldn't follow along with what was happening and why. Now after watching it alongside Tony, I'm now appreciating the kind of story Golden Kamuy is. It is similar to how Jojo's works as a story. No matter the scenario, challenges or weirdness our characters face, we fall deeper in love with them because they act true to themselves, without compromising themselves by bending to the plot . Characters come first, and the plot can come later once our guys are ready again.
