Okkkk! Well, that was fun. Went in knowing ZERO about the anime, and I am def liking what is going on so far. During the post episode discussion, I had a massive old man brain and couldn't think of Cowboy Bebop... lmaoooo as this anime reminds me of that quite a bit. Characters and roles feel similar to it (Revy, Dutch, & Benny). Rock seems like he might get into the lifestyle if he lives past episode 1. Is his VA the same as Light Yagami in Death Note dub? Feels very similar. Looking forward to ep 2.

Jet Man

Because it IS the voice actor for Light Yagami. Bradley Swaile

I used to hate this intro because back when online anime radios were popular this was like EVERY other song. Me trying to listen to Rahxephon OP or anything not super popular at the time was impossible. Also fun fact this ED song was not labeled for Black Lagoon back during the time of lime wire. I ended up learning over the years a lot of songs I associated with various animes or things just were not true thanks to lime wire. Either way this anime gives off all the vibes of early 2000s/late 90s Action flicks. The move from cel animation to digital made a lot of these shows have a similar "texture" that gives me that nostalgic early 2000s anime vibe. Darker than Black, Black Blood Brothers...whatever else showed up in the Otaku USA magazines. Anyway that was just a nostalgia tangent because this was right during the end of my high school era when I decided to go to college for animation.

Are there any videos out there talking about the discussion and switch from cel to digital? That would be fun for me to watch

Blood Of Mine

I feel this. I think Darker Than Black is another good anime to follow up to this for that same sort of 2000s action feel.

Yea, I kinda forgot that all the women in this anime are baddies 🙂‍↕️ Pardon my french, but Balalaika can use me as a chair all day long

Arian Abdolahy

Darker Than Black is amazing, doesn't even look like an old anime to me. And it's soundtrack is amazing too... I'm saying atmosphere!

Mal

I cant think of anyone who says damn better then that voice actor after all those damn L’s

kinetic98

Yes this anime is about beta light yagami trying to fix a baddie, lol i was wondering when he is gonna take out the death note

Alejandro Pupo

Fun reaction but you fighting for you life trying to remember Cowboy Bebop was hilarious LOL

dutch and balalaika sound awesome in dub, but i feel revy's VA is better in Jap

Good video tho it doesnt go into a lot of the details of animation that changed and why earlier cel works upscaled better than animes that got the digital paint treatment later on. But its a fine history on anime as an evolving art form. The video does hit a point that i saw all too well in school. It quotes a director saying digital offered so many options he was worried animators would lose the basics. Cant tell you how many 3D animators wanted to skip learning 2D animation cause they thought they didn't need it.

Someone linked a fairly interesting one but it doesnt dive into any specifics tho ir gives a brief history of animes relationship with technology as the industry grew. But i have never seen anything that gets techy or into the grind of it. When i was in college i had to source a lot of books for that info.

James Long

Ha, for me Revy is the iconic voice of this dub.

Balalaika my Beloved

Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon... maybe Death Note.. The only thing missing is Baccano for the best dubs in anime!! Also I love this animation, way more than modern anime.
