Summer Wars, I'm sorry but Your Name's story is pretty meh by comparison. Shinkai's movies wonderful pieces of pure art, but his storytelling is mediocre

A Silent Voice is very often followed up by Your Name and vice versa, for some reason I can’t remember they’re often talked about together, but Princess Mononoke is peak so hopefully you can get to that one too one day 🙏

Not to the degree Shinkai's movies are. Almost all of them are effectively the same movie in a different setting and mechanics. All (except one) are about love separated by time and space, from Voices of a Distant Star and 5cm Per Second to Your Name. This is on top of the movies having poorly developed character romances considering that it is a part of the main focus of his movies.

I say we put spirited away or kiki or porco rosso on the next poll. Or even totoro. Mononoke is great and brought anime into the mainstream in the west, but imo its not the peak miyazaki film, especially not score-wise, I'd put it at like 6th for Joe hiasishi scores
