Hellloooooo, best episode alert! LMAO that was 🥇I don't think we can get any cooler than this oneLOL the cliche montage moment was so epic, it just felt perfect This anime sets the sports anime standards SO high... and by far the best moment... was the natural occurring food analogy within the episode itself. Huge win, let's goooo

Tony has to watch Blue Lock next time just for the antithesis of teamwork that series has 😂

Tony, I think you'll be happy to know the quality keeps going until the ending. One of the best manga overall of the last 20 years. Ending also landed all the way too. You're in for a treat. Now it's a question of how well they adapt it. They're already cutting a few corners by adapting some matches as movies where it's easier to cut some content, but we'll see.

The Miya twins' reference to the "Sky Love Hurricane" is a shoutout to one of the most popular and successful sports anime, Captain Tsubasa. The original anime was made in the mid 1980's and it's been rebooted 3 times with the most recent in 2023. The show is huge in South America and Europe where soccer is played. Many soccer legends like Messi, Iniesta, Neymar, Mbappe, etc. have said that they grew up watching Captain Tsubasa. I think it's safe to say that there are 2 main categories of sports anime: the fantasized ones (Captain Tsubasa) vs. the realistic ones (Haikyuu). The fantasized sports anime is where everything is elevated and exaggerated to the point where real-world physics don't apply (Shaolin Soccer anybody???). Anyway, there is a set of twins in Captain Tsubasa that perform a technique called the "Sky Love Hurricane." A teammate will pass the ball high into the air by the goal where nobody can reach it. One of the twins then lies on his back with his feet up while the other jumps onto his brother's feet. The one on the bottom launches his brother high into the air where he heads the ball straight into the goal. It's one of the more ridiculous moves in the series and it's performed by twins which is why it's so well-known.

Hinata’s receive montage is definitely super anime trope-y but in my opinion Haikyuu 100% freaking earns the cheesiness. I get annoyed with other animes for being melodramatic and cheesy just for the sake of it and it just makes me cringe because it hasn’t earned my emotional investment. But damn Haikyuu really does well in choosing which moments to capitalize on all the work it’s put in to its characters and storytelling without it feeling heavy handed. I’m glad you appreciated this episode so much.

1:20 i haven't watched other sports anime, but my understanding is that there's many of them on the same tier as Haikyuu (if not better)

17:58 The name of the OST is "Piton" by Yuki Hayashi, one of my favourites of the season!

You can see the act of eating as an expression of a desire to live. Hinata plays volleyball like his life depends on it XD

top reaction mate, laughed a lot

Literally this episode is the epitome of the quote they always tell us: “if the ball is still in air, then we haven’t lost yet”
