This is easily the best music production I’ve experienced in an anime so far. Sound Euphonium does come close for me. I go on a pretty long tangent at the end, just talking through how much I appreciated what they pulled off here. The way this film captures the value of music, and what it actually means to people, is just on another level.
I stopped a bunch throughout because there were so many moments worth digging into. So many details, so many things they got right. By the end I was honestly just blown away.
And the OST… LMAOOO, they were not playing around. The musicians absolutely delivered🔥
For anyone curious about who’s behind it, the soundtrack for Blue Giant was composed and produced by Hiromi Uehara, who also performed the piano parts for Yukinori. The main trio performances (JASS) feature Tomoaki Baba on tenor sax and Shun Ishiwaka on drums.
Key players:
Piano: Hiromi Uehara
Tenor Sax: Tomoaki Baba
Drums: Shun Ishiwaka
Bass: Marty Holoubek
Strings: Conducted by Miho Hazama
According to Google, there are 30+ musicians involved overall, including full string sections in key moments, and Hiromi also handled the ending theme “BLUE GIANT.”
