Alright, we are off to a fun start. Definitely dig the VERY different vibe of aesthetics with the art and overall presentation.OP was a cool punkesk type garage band type intro 🎶I always enjoy seeing someone good at something, but far too cocky, get humbled by someone else who has massively more invested 👏I was trippn at the start as Smile really sounded like Detleff... and I just jumped on Google to find that it is Kōki Uchiyama. So good job staying consistent on your character disposition.Very curious to learn more about Kong. Are we calling him China?Looking forward to tomorrow!

Yup! The voice actor for Smile is detlef from Haikyu! The voice actor is also prominent in popular sports anime so you'll be hearing him a lot as you continue this genre. In terms of other anime you've watched, he's also had supporting roles in Violet Evergarden, Oshi no Ko and JJK

The director of this show is also a legendary anime film director. Would love to see one of his movies make it on the poll someday, they're all very surreal and great. Mind Game is my recommendation.

Good first episode. The characters and story are very interesting . Animation style isn't really my cup of tea, but so far the story looks to be interesting so I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Smile's voice actor is Koki Uchiyama. He's also the voice for Kei in Haikyu (blond guy with glasses) and Toge in JJK (a minor side character that speaks by saying food names)

Huh interesting... 21:09 The JPN & EN sub is different from Kong's chinese line. The Chinese should be "Or maybe it is someone like me who has confidence but lack the talent that is truly pathetic". Seems like the EN sub is direct translation from JP sub which is a comment on Smile. I wonder if this is intentional from the production

Different translations from the one I've seen. Mostly similar, but one notable line when China and his coach are on the roof: "Don't forget that we own you", in the other translation is "Remember they're paying for you to be here"

The second translation is definitely the accurate one, at least if we're talking about the Japanese subs translating the Mandarin being spoken. I remember the Crunchyroll subs for Ping Pong being bad in general though, so this will be a reoccurring issue.
