This is so intense. Man. Wilk , the real version, is w i l d. 😵‍💫🫨We have departed SO far from a gold treasure hunt. I said at the end that this anime softa feels like a catfish experience, but not in a bad way.We have just gotten super deep into the politics of it all. It makes sense tho.I am not gonna unsee Tsurumi and the Wilk mask tho... WATDEF! lmaoAsirpa handled all that information pretty well.

Amazing. Perfection. Nightmare fuel.

Isaac Noël

My headcanon is he numbed himself with some kind of ainu mixture of herbs or like venom or something. Local anaesthetic can be pretty powerful.... but still, jfc

since keeping track of all the factions can be a little confusing, here's a refresher on the main factions after the Ainu gold: • Russian Revolutionaries - having lost their prior leaders of Wilk and Yulbars (Kiroranke), they are now led by Sofia Goldenhand. Originally, Wilk and Yulbars' plan was to infiltrate the Ainu to locate the gold and redirect the funds for the cause of the freedom of all ethnic minorities of Russia after the pair's assassination of Tsar Alexander II. Wilk, however, found himself at home with the Ainu and left the fate of the gold to his daughter Asirpa. Yulbars saw this as a betrayal to their cause, and had Wilk killed at Abashiri. • Asirpa's Group - led by Sugimoto and Asirpa, this ragtag gang seeks to secure a future for the dwindling native cultures of Japan. The Ainu who gathered the gold planned to purchase weapons to take back their lands from the governments of Japan - what will Asirpa do with the gold to further the goals left to her by her father? (Also, Vasily the Russian sharpshooter is tagging along with them to bag him a certain wildcat... dude lost his lower jaw in that first duel and wants a taste at revenge.) (Shiraishi is there, too. He just wants money for hookers.) • 7th Division - a rogue unit of the Japanese military under the leadership of Lt. Tsurumi, they seek the Ainu gold to establish a new military government and munitions factories on Hokkaido (supplied by the Americans) to strengthen the nation against foreign invasion in the wake of the Russo-Japanese war. He thoroughly manipulates his men to create diehard supporters for his cause, but is it truly the 'noble' and nationalistic one he tells his men, or is it a more personal one? • Hijikata Toshizou's group - led by the remnants of the long-thought-dead Shinsengumi, Hijikata Toshizou seeks to re-establish the short-lived Republic of Ezo. The Shinsengumi were a secret police force for the Tokugawa Shogunate that ruled the country before the Meiji Restoration, which was essentially a revolution caused by the arrival of Matthew Perry, leading to the opening and westernization of the nation. In real life, he was dead 30 years ago by the time Golden Kamuy takes place; in this story, he's essentially the last of the samurai on one last wild ride, fighting to prevent the sun from setting on his way of life. • Central (Meiji Government) - the current (at time of fiction) governing body of Japan. Surely if such an insane treasure hunt was going on in your nation, you'd have a reliable ear to the ground rather than leaving everything to Tsurumi and his whackjobs, right...? • Hyakunosuke Ogata - once bedfellows with four of the above major factions at one time or another, he now works alone. On account of his MANY loose screws, he mostly just wants to watch the world burn at this point. this little refresher should also come in handy down the line, since the """final season""" you're watching now won't actually finish the series. it'll be wrapped up later on this year, apparently? either way, hope this helps, stay cool ✌️
