Nier:Automata was a game first (2017). Then it had an anime adaptation, which was Nier:Automata Ver1.1a (2023).

Iirc most of what's shown in the Anime MV you watched is stuff from the first few episodes of the anime, so not actually very spoiler-y. In any case, the game is a way more complete experience so that should always be the first option and the game OST is up there with the greats, top 3 for me in combo with Replicant. The anime is as mentioned more of a sumplementary material as it loses many of the nuances but adds a bunch of extra things that people that are already fans of Nier and/or Drakengard(related series) will notice. It also reuses much of the game OST at any chance.

Man, I love NieR: Automata, few games have had the same impact on me, and only one has had a greater one: NieR: Replicant. I don't think you've spoiled anything for yourself; the plot and message are so deep and complex that you wouldn't have grasped anything just from the visuals, so you're in the clear, still good call on avoiding watching it a second timehaha. And yes, it's better to play the game first, but the anime is a great complement to it.

God, this song gives me goosebumps every time. Nier: Automata the game is a masterpiece, and even though the anime isn't quite as good, it's still surely worth watching.

You got a bit spoiled but not really. Both the game and the anime are amazing. I highly recommend both. The game is unique in how it plays and how it tells the whole story through the different characters. Without going into spoilers, the after credit scenes of each anime episode references an alternate ending of the game which can be very silly.

Nier: Automata is my favorite game of all time. Literally the only game ever to send me into an existential crisis… Well except when I was on hour 5 of trying to beat promised consort Radahn with no summons

Hoolio

I would totally pay to watch a lets play from Tony for this game.

One of the best games I've ever played and the anime was good too even if it was missing some nuance that the game was able to have. Maybe we'll get it on a poll someday...
