Something fun about this episode is that it reveals that Killua makes no sound with his footsteps. If you go back and watch the first 55 episodes again, every scene where Killua is running makes no noise. you can hear Gon's footsteps when they're next to each other. but, never Killua's.

I believe it was the length. They were plans already of HxH replacing Jojo's after he was done with it so we were just waiting, it was going to happen at some point because of how highly recommended it was. This was before Tier 3, I assume the existence of the tier and him watching 5 episodes a week made it easier.

Here’s Squala’s death from the 2002 ova continuation of the 1999 series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX_On4bLrt8. It actually shows the chase instead of just cutting to them having caught him already. It’s also a lot moodier and slower paced, but I think that works to its advantage. I also think the animation is slightly better as well.
