What an insane pull

So this show, when it first originally came out, was so insanely popular, it was literally everywhere in Japan. To this day, people still have the dance to the opening song, Memorized. Basically, it's a classic anime icon.

For a little context to the scene itself, Suzumiya (bunny girl) was called upon by the bass and drum players to cover for the sick/injured rhythm guitar, singer, and main guitar player. The guitar player, Nagoto, is an alien super intelligence that literally just learned the entire part prior to the concert at Suzumiya's request. Suzumiya herself also had a very short amount of time to pull off the performance, and is known as an eccentric troublemaker at the school, so her doing this performance so well was very shocking to the entire crowd, especially the male MC that did the little finger tapping. There's a lot of supernatural stuff happening in this show and I don't want to spoil who Suzumiya is too much beyond that, but the anime is a CLASSIC among classics and introduced a huge amount of people to anime and the slice of life genre even with the supernatural elements that drive the overall story forward. Kyoto Animation Studio also created a lot of controversy with this show with the 2nd season for reasons you should find out yourself.. I highly recommend you check out, it is anime history. Also the first way you said Suzumiya was correct. It's not Suzumaiya lol

In 2006 this was mind blowing for sure. The show itself is a classic for pretentious old guys like me, and its hard to overstate how much it took over anime communities back then, but its kind of a tough watch now. Haruhi herself is a generationally annoying character lol, and the plot is genuinely bizarre in a way that's hard to follow. The sequel movie is actually so good that its worth sitting thru the worst parts of the series tho.

Also this show is by kyoto animation, one of their earliest.

What a throwback. The English dub actually went and dubbed the song into English which nowadays is pretty much unheard of and it’s actually pretty good, though not as good as the original. In the actual episode there is no harmony the reason why you’re hearing it here is that they’ve replaced the episode audio with the studio version of the song, and also extended the clip so it can go over the whole song cause in the episode they don’t play the entire song. That's why the animation on the instruments sometimes is not accurate to what's being played. In the episode they only play 2 and a half minutes of the song and it’s only the first verse, first chorus, then it goes into the bridge before the final chorus, and it doesn't play all of the final guitar solo. The animation studio for Haruhi is Kyoto Animation which will later go on to animate Sound Euphonium and Violet Evergarden.

This song is super popular because of the anime primarily. This anime was insanely popular and influential at the time. The song is good, but it's way more impactful in the context of the anime. I won't spoil so I'll just give a vague explanation. Imagine this character that was singing has never shown any musical inclinations and is kind of hated by others. And then she suddenly does this performance, it would probably blow you away that they have this hidden talent. The guitarist going over the top showing off their skills way more than the others also is for a reason in the show that I can't even allude to without spoiling as it's not something you could ever expect.

An anime cult classic! I think this is a full studio version of the song, in the actual anime this track is shorter by like a minute or so and has crowd noises and hall reverb to make it sound live and it sounds like she's singing alone there. This fan video has visuals copy pasted somewhat to make it longer to fit the full track length which leads to some hilariously wrong hand positions on the fret 😅 About the smooth animation at some places - I think they've used rotoscope animation for some closeups of guitar/bass player and the drummer. Basically, they've traced over an actual video of musicians playing frame by frame. Amazing track, still listening to it time to time.

This anime and this song was HUGE in the early 2000's. Though looking back at this edit(amv) of the song I won't lie I agree the way the edit makes the animation on Yuki(guitarist) spaz is hilarious every-time. Like, I totally get what the editor for this full version is trying to do, but seeing the hand spaz all over the place for the closing solo is really funny. Thankfully the actual animation in the anime is pretty good not doing it, I believe it was rotoscoped actually for this scene. I know they recorded the band playing live and animated it as closely as possible anyway. For anyone not in the know, this full AMV of the song, edits the animation to try and match the full song; leading to really funny visuals. In reality for this particular solo the hand moves very little from the position it primarily stays at the 11th-21st frets if I remember(starts at 11th through 14ths, ends 16/21st), minus the quick slides at the very end. It's mainly quick shifts and hammer ons/offs, not spazing all over the fret-board. That being said, it's been a while since I actually played the solo guitar part of this song, since I usually sing along with it I end up playing rhythm guitar mostly. I will say from what I remember while a decent challenge(not crazy) the lead guitar part of this song is a LOT of fun when done right. God Knows feels like the guitar is the main star throughout, minus the chorus where it actually blends in to the group before shooting off again. I think that is what I really like about it personally, the main guitar lick is very catchy and fun to listen to as a hook throughout. Kinda sad the bassist and drums don't get to join in the fun, but that's not the kinda song it is lol.

Mayhem

Haruhi was extremely popular back in the late 2000s. God Knows is considered one of the anime anthems back in the day. The Hare Hare Yukai dance from this show was preformed en mass at most anime conventions back then

I just finished this anime for the first time. Enjoyed it so much. Kyoani more than anyone how to build a loveable cast, the disappearance is cinema
