Yooooo
The OST is VERY good in this episode. Seems like we are really embracing dark symphonic scoring as we delve into the gritty side of the story. We are entering a possible 'this is legit bad and could potentially wipe out a lot of people' part of the story

I didn’t want to spoil but I have been waiting on this OST reaction since you posted Kage + Rasetsu on YouTube and it was the first thing I thought of when you started the show

This was the episode on my first watch that kinda turned my stomach a bit, and gave me a weird anxiety feeling. Like I felt a darkness behind the creatures, especially the scene with Ponzu at her end there…

DA BEARS!!! As far as the ant seeing nen, some humans are able to see and sometimes use aura/nen without training, like the fortune teller girl. I always imagined it was these "higher quality" humans mixed with the abilities of other animals that allow for that ant to be able to see nen already. Zepile unknowingly separated his aura when making the knockoffs and killua was able to sense the nen from his brother and sushi before knowing what it was. Although I believe you're right in that this is the first time someone or something has straight up seen the nen without being taught

Ants are born with genes/traits of humans they have eaten and since they ate a lot of those guys with guns it makes sense they would know how to use them. They also are born fully grown-up so the trais are probably stronger

Just shows you how insanely OP phagogenesis is (the mode of trait inheritance that this species of ants is capable of). Its not like standard genetic inheritance; you can eat the prey and upload the “last save file” immediately into the offspring, its like if an ant eats you Tony and the offspring inherits your traits, they can be a music pro from day 1. At least thats my understanding of all this

Here’s my take on the enemies power level in this arc. Essentially Kite told us from the beginning that the ants are extremely dangerous and will attack/eat humans, even at their base insect form. We saw this when Killua got attacked by an ant in the first episode. I think we’re meant to assume that the ant soilders are already much stronger and powerful than humans. Also, we know that the ant soilders possess traits of the humans that they come from. Which explains why they can do things like read books, shoot guns, give each other names ect.

Everytime that I watch the scene about Gyro's past, I always think "Imagine how that would be in the 1999 version".

The stronger ants are basically very gifted from the moment they're born basically. Gon and Killua could somewhat sense nen even before they started learning it. The one with the arrows was someone that passed the hunter exam that also learnt nen (although in the average side, they're still relatively a strong human) and was defeated by a Squadron Leader that didn't even now nen. So yeah, they're a big deal lol.

Human effort value vs Chimera ant inherited value. Can the will that overcomes adversity and the strength from that overcome their genetic advantages and what comes from that. That's how I'm seeing it. If they eat someone who knows how to shoot a gun they probably can be born and shoot a gun.

This Tony Rants session at the end had a hilarious subtle foreshadow😂 I won’t say what part but I’ll bring it up later once it happens

I totally agree that this anime is very good regarding leveling up. Other animes like Dragon Ball its a totally broken system, goes so high that it has a god like character that can erase whole dimensions out of nowhere. HxH start with strong characters that have natural abilities like Gon, Leorio, Kurapika, and others that trained alot, like Killua, Hanzo. Then suddenly Nen comes into play and everything changes. And the leveling up process with Nen is also super awesome.

Lixien

I meant the one shooting the arrows. Also, used the wrong term for the Spider ant. He's not a Squadron leader, he's below that, an officer.

As for why some of the ants are starting to see and interact with nen-abilities, and why they can use guns so quickly: Chimera ants take on the characteristics of the things they / the queen eat. Aura is produced by all living things, so they were already producing it before eating a nen-user in particular. They also just adapt and evolve super quickly, so after eating enough humans it seems like they're starting to get the very basics for the weird life-energy they're all full of. No training or deeper understanding at this point, just 100% intuition. For the guns and tech, they inherit some of the qualities from the people they eat, so consuming effectively an entire drug cartel has given them a rapid crash course on weapons handling lmao.

As the arc progresses, could you let us know what keys or scales we may be dealing with in the menacing pieces? It seems like they are also going for dissonance often. Also, if you want the arc to be crazier, let's go back in time and get the creator of Jojo to help write this arc. 🤣

Walt D

🤣 You can't blame me for being curious. 🤣🤣🤣

The beauty of this arc imo is that it takes what we've seen and are familiar with, flips it on its head. Humans hunting for things has been the core, but now we just might be on the chopping block. Wicked story

I will not spoil anything I just want to reassure you that most the things that are bothering you right now will be cleared out as per usual with hunter x hunter. I 100% understand that it bugs you so it's normal that you express it but just trust the writing of togashi. Also do not read too much into the comments cause I noticed there are slight spoilers down here so be careful.

Belac

It makes sense how the ants are progressing so quickly to me. Firstly, during kites backstory, it was explained that animals have an attraction to somebody with potential strong Aura, so naturally they have proclivity towards nen. Or If they just so happened to devour somebody like Zephile who also had a natural sense for nen, it makes sense How the spider guy could. Furthermore, the Chimera ants at base level would have killed and devoured Killua if kite didn't push him so they were already a huge threat before they started devouring humans. I really like how this part of the arc feels like a race against the clock with an exponentially growing threat. It's meant to feel overwhelming and unfair.

HOLY SHIT THAT WAS A DARK EPISODE

Bjorn Knudson

The song that plays when Ponzu is running to get help reminds me so much of a risk of rain 2 soundtrack song
