Remus stepped close and toyed with the cut of Snape’s collar. “What is the muggle nursery rhyme, the one with the girl in the red cloak? She meets a wolf?”

He glared, arms still crossed in the dark hallway. “Red riding hood.”

“She puts me in mind of you.”

“Because I am known for garish colous, I presume.”

Remus smiled slowly, something predatory for all its sweetness. “All the better to eat you with.”

“I will not be a replacement for the mutt, wolf.” Snape snarls.

Remus snorts. The idea is laughable, but he doesn’t want Sirius. Not tonight, not anymore. He wants hard black eyes and nimble hands. “That’s what the wolf says.”

Snape crooks an eyebrow. “And what does this wolf say?”

Remus grins, all teeth and hunger. “That if you insist on being a surly bastard, I’ll find a better use for that mouth.”
