When I entered the theater to watch the movie "Tom of Finland", I was fully expecting to see a bad documentary of my favourite gay artist. But instead, it is a good story and I was in tears at certain moments. This film resonates with me on many levels, maybe because I'm a gay artist myself and I've struggled for years to make art my living. If you were not an artist, you would not understand how difficult it is to get noticed and make people actually care about your works. But no matter how difficult it is to be a gay artist nowadays, it's so much harder to be a gay erotic artist at time of "Tom of Finland" (after the WWII), it seemed almost impossible. But Touko made that impossible possible, and I guess that's what's so great about Tom of Finland. And it always reminds me what a great era we are living in right now: I can share my gay art with a lot of people, and more importantly, I can love another man and hold his hand when we walk down the streets.

XD

Thx for sharing this

Thanks for the review. Am skeptical too about artist biopics as well.

song

You are welcome. When a film gets me thinking about my life, it's usually a good sign. XD

song

You are welcome, Danny. Before we went to the cinema to watch this movie, I read books about the artist's life and the movie seems to follow most of the major events of his biography pretty well. Sure it's not a documentary, but I think it worths of your time. XD

Danny Provencio

Looking forward to it then. Thank you very much.

I always wanted to see this but wasn't sure how it turn out. But I'm more curious now. And I had a similar experience when I saw Red Tails which was about the Tuskeegee Airmen in WW2 and it was surprisingly good. I met a surviving member of the Tuskeegee Airmen a few years ago and it was truly an honor because they helped paved the way for people of color in service and people of color in general and he was proud of me for going to college to earn a degree at such a young age. So I totally understand where you're coming from Song. Plus you're still our kickass French artist 😁

song

Thank you very much, David. If you got the chance, I would totally recommend you to check out this movie. Sure it does not have the same budget as many Hollywood movies, but it has a meaningful story for most of us. We are all standing on the shoulders of the pioneers, and you should be proud of what you achieve in your personal life. XD

"importantly, I can love another man and hold his hand when we walk down the streets" unfortunately we can't do this in my country:((

song

Sorry to hear that. But things are progressing and changing everyday. Never lose the faith, things will get better. XD

While I really enjoy the NSFW cartoons, ones like this are really what life as a gay couple are like, the everyday, going to the movies sort of thing. Keep up the good work. I don't hit the movies often, but if this shows up on Netflix, I will watch it. I would suggest the Tab Hunter documentary if you two decide to watch something at home. No explosions, but it is I think a candid look at being closeted and a star from his time and place.
