I was waiting. 😂🤣😅

A bluish color in BCS indicates a flashback scene. It was the same color for the flashback scene between Jimmy and Chuck after Jimmy was arrested.

The reason Mike was so relived is bc that bandage had been on there for a while and had really sealed to the wound. Once he yanked that off I think was just a relief to not have that pulling and grinding on his wound.

Mike's backstory with his son makes you rethink about his relationship with Jesse. He was a father figure to Jesse. Phenomenal acting by Jonathan Banks (Mike) in this episode.

Drewcliff82

Ok just finished the first episode and as a father this one always cuts deep. Mike is definitely a gray character. He wanted to be a cop and a good guy but bc of the precinct he worked at he ended up in the shit. Then after losing his son he lost all hope. These 2 are all he has left in the world. Now you see what I mean when I say this show is just as good as BB but it's a much slower burn.

The films that are “colored terrible” are purposely colored that way to indicate you are watching a flashback

DripCarayBBX

And he suggested black-and-white for flashbacks, but B&W has its own deliberate meaning throughout the series

In the transition from Mike walking to his car back to Philly, I think the hum of the pawn shop lights in Philadelphia Eagles green might be a deliberate choice too.

Yea Karen Kettleman is about as annoying as it gets lol. She has to have a guy like Craig that she can run all over. Saul and Mike definitely have an interesting relationship. Saul can't get the office now bc he gave back all the money they gave him. That's why the deal will work. Now he has to go back to the Salon for the time being.

The blueish hue looks it’s worst in the daytime and for that long of a scene. I do like the nostalgic vibe it gives off though in some of the other flashbacks

This is one of the rare shows that actually gets better with every season . I agree on some of the characters being dislikable on the first season. It's also kind of a slow burn. But it really does get going. And each season will continue to be better than the last.

Skyler Ralf

Also I was cracking up at "she will be remarried within 3 years " and then a few minutes later " 2 years." And then a little after that it went down to "6 months " 🤣🤣

I think its a testament to the writing in breaking bad that even the side characters can generate so much investment in their story arcs and backgrounds. As if THEY are the main character. Not even just 1 side character as well, the majority of the side characters! They are also unique and fleshed out.

They’re filming cold/blue-toned anytime it’s a scene in the past — you’ll notice that with Jimmy scenes from the past too. May not like it but that’s the point of it, so you could tell it’s a scene from the past. Past = blue, present = normal, future = black and white on this show. Oh and yellow = Mexico 😂 feminine products / pads do not have numbing product in it… I wish, lol . I think he’s just sighing with relief from having clean, soft padding up against his wound once he takes off the used one. Also: is the Breaking Bad discussion with your wife coming out still? Would love to hear it 🙏

The black and white denotes post-Breaking Bad. Three ways to know instantly what timeline you're in.

No numbing. Just super absorbent. Whether it falls off depends on your shoulders, I guess.

Long ago and far away, I was hooked on a television series - Hill Street Blues. I mean *hooked*. This was way back probably before many of you were born. HSB had a big regular cast and mostly unknown guest actors, and one story line that particularly caught my attention was that of a serial killer with multiple personality disorder. I didn't recognize the actor but he was amazing - you couldn't take your eyes off him. I didn't even catch his name. and I pretty much forgot about him because I never saw him again - until over thirty years later when he showed up as the character Mike in Breaking Bad. And I recognized him instantly, after all that time.

The revolver doesn’t drop any of the….. ? I need to know, sir, I was geeking out as usual 🤓

I always felt during Breaking Bad that Mike had a tragic backstory, and that it had something to do with his granddaughter’s missing father. Mike has the layers of hidden sadness and buried despair that makes me love characters like Tony Soprano.

Susan B

Um, no. No numbing medicine. It’s just an absorbent pad. I didn’t see Mike sighing with relief, but flinching with pain when he pressed the pad against his wound.

And often it’s to express the mood of a memory. Ugly memories are the color of bad dreams.

That final scene with Jonathan Banks is some of the best acting in the Breaking Bad universe, imo.

Susan B

Yes and yes. Incredible acting, and the story reframes Mike’s relationship with Jesse. Mike’s son was close to perfect and died anyway; Jesse is desperately flawed but has a tiny core of goodness that Mike recognizes, however reluctantly, and wishes he could save.

My dad loved Hill Street Blues so much! He laughed so hard at some of their best laugh lines, that a vein would bulge in my dad’s forehead and I’d think, “He’s literally going to die laughing.” Hill Street Blues was daring AF for a network show. They pushed boundaries.

I lived in Miami during the 80s, when cops assigned to the drug division were busted in a federal sting that became known as the “Miami River Cops.” (They were assisting smugglers who used boats on the Miami River.) It was wild. Body-parts-in-barrels-of-concrete wild. Not just cops skimming drug money or selling protection, but cops as a whole operating arm of the cartels.

Meg Geddes

I planned my weekly calendar around it.
