Marvel Monday!!!😄

Marquis keel

FYI the mcu don’t explain but Tchalla is one of the smartest characters and his hand to hand is second to none at this point in the mcu. There are characters with better hands but they aren’t mcu canon rn cap is close but black panthers better

dawn

was watching your reaction to iron man 1 waiting for this to come out. good timing

dawn

immediately notice a huge improvement in the quality when i watch your older marvel. love that

C

Was waiting for this 😬 Chadwick was such a beast doing all these films while sick. RIP to him!

dawn

unfortunately stan is not still alive. i dont remember the year he passed away but it was more than 2yrs ago now.

gak9319

Stan died in 2018😥

Mike

Boko Haram is the group, the bastards

gak9319

The main perpetrators when it comes to artifact "acquisitions" would be Great Britain, France and Germany. Though you would probably find something in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and perhaps even Denmark.

dawn

wow that was super long ago. i thought it was after covid for sure.

dawn

this movie makes absolutely no sense. the fact they let one of their own not even in the challenge just get deleted. they should have retaliated after deleting zuri. im pretty sure they also shouldnt let a complete psychopath have a path to the throne.

TAN

The soundtrack is done by the same composer who did Oppenheimer. Won an Oscar for both movies.

Brandon Tracy-Hurst

Pumped for next week. I think the "who is right?" feeling that you had at the end is intentional

Madmanmarz1981

Ok , it's checklist time!!! Edibles - check , Cones packed and ready - check , Beer's at 30 degrees - check , Lego Mini Fig of Black Panther - check. Let's go to Wakanda Mother-Bitches!!! Peace

Call me Lilly, Lilith if ya Nasty.

The sand is just sand, the snow is just snow, it's all the Heart-Shaped Herb... a medicinal plant grown in vibranium-enriched soil. If you need to know who's right and who's wrong, you were halfway there by referencing the 'New Black Panthers'. Killmonger is coded to represent a certain faction of Black Liberation Ideology which espouses that peace and equality cannot be achieved until the issue of 'too many white people are breathing' is corrected. Was T'Chaka wrong in putting Wakandan Isolationism above his own family? Yes, absolutely, but 'Erik Stevens' is all the way on the opposite end of the spectrum. Nikia and T'Challa want to help Everybody. Killmonger wants to hurt Colonizers, and helping People of Color in the process is just a bonus to him and anybody caught in the crossfire probably deserved it in his mind.

Mark B

The score for the movie was done by Goransson but the Soundtrack was put together by Kendrick Lamar

Mike

Oh man, do you not know about King Leopold? May THAT bastard rot in hell...

gak9319

Belgium is on the list, but they had a very small empire, mostly just the Congo. I would say the bigger empires stole artifacts on much larger scale all around the world. If I where comparing genocides the list would be different.

Mike

You are right man, this IS a movie like no other. Won three Oscars, for Costume, Score, and Production Design. Directed by Ryan Coogler, who also co-wrote. As for the feel of the movie, they were going for a sort of afro-punk, futuristic/tradiational vibe. But that's the theme of the whole movie, opposites: past vs future; right vs wrong; isolationism vs globalism; Killmonger vs Black Panther. Here is the best blurb about the design of this movie I can find, swiped it from Wikipedia... Hahaha, though I didn't google it! ...I already knew it was there! ...Because I am a Wikipedia nerd AND a comic nerd. The other writer of the movie, Joe Cole, called the film an "historic opportunity to depict a Black superhero, at a time when African-Americans are affirming their identities while dealing with vilification and dehumanization". It was important to root the film in the actual cultures of Africa, with the filmmakers consulting with experts on the region of Africa that Wakanda is supposed to be located in, rooting the film "in reality first and then build out from there". Coogler's vision for Wakanda was inspired by the southern African country Lesotho, a country which has historically been "an enclave, able to protect its independence because of its terrain" and was only lightly colonized by the British; the country's traditional blankets are also featured in the film. Coogler compared the rarity of vibranium existing only in Wakanda to the real-life mineral coltan that can almost only be found in Congo. He wanted Wakanda to feel like a full country with multiple distinct tribes, and created a project bible that detailed each Wakandan tribe to guide the design process. Special care was taken to create a futuristic look that was not alien.

Mike

P.s. The Oscar winning costumer of this movie, Ruth E. Carter, has also been lead costumer on...(Deep Breath)... I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, Do the Right Thing, The Five Heartbeats, Malcom X, Meteor Man, Crooklyn, Clockers, Amistad, Summer of Sam, Love & Basketball, Baby Boy, Serenity, The Butler, SELMA, Chi-Raq, and last bit not least... motherfucking BLACK DYNAMITE!!!! DYNE-O-MITE!!! Hahahahaha, DYNE-O-MITE!!!!

Chris Robson

Andy Serkis is actually British, that is a accent he is putting on :)

gak9319

Maybe it's never melt snow from The Throat Of The World 😄

JM

Like I said, top 3 Marvel film by far. It was directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler. Scored by the amazing Ludwig Göransson and the soundtrack, absolute 🔥if you have the time, was executive-produced and curated by Kendrick Lamar. The budget was $200 million, it did $1.349 billion at the box office making it the 6th highest grossing Marvel movie; the other five being four Avengers movies and a Spiderman sequel! There is a Black Panther 2 but unfortunately it is without the main character, Chadwick Boseman, as he passed away. You finally made it to the pinnacle of the MCU and what everyone was waiting for, Infinity War. I'm sure you'll have A LOT of fun next week.

gak9319

Göransson😁

JM

Wow! I never knew. Would love for MRLBOYD to react to Black Dynamite 😂

The Talanton X

10:15 - Good eye! Yep, that's the same actress.

The Talanton X

12:21 - Yes, they do seem to be styled after Boko Haram ("Western Education Is Forbidden")

trueyinyang

Lupita Nyong'o is absolutely gorgeous, The Black Panther is one the best Marvel movies ever. also one of my favorite characters from the comics is the Black Panther.

Rana

He’s absolutely elite at accents. I’ve never seen him miss when attempting one or voicing a character of any sort (fun fact for those who may not know, he voices gollum in lord of the rings)!

Madmanmarz1981

Holy Vibranium Shit Balls!! Amazing reaction Sir!! And yet again , you got sucked in by a damn great film!! This is one of only a very few MCU films that worked on EVERY level. IMO. Next Monday , the WAR begins!!!! Peace

Madmanmarz1981

"Who the hell is interuptin my kung-fu !?"

Madmanmarz1981

Ok , since I have seen BD mentioned before as a request , I would like to ask 2 questions. First , for members/fans of BD.. Do you think having seen many Blaxploitation Films of the 70's is important for the enjoyment of the film? (I mean from Shaft and Superfly , to Black Belt Jones and Coffey and more) And 2nd ,(for the mods/Mr , ) Has Mr LB seen much of that sub-genre? (HUGE fan of the sub-genre here. Rudy Ray , Pam , Jim , Hayes ,Jim Brown , etc. ) Just curious. Peace

itsRichErich

Fun fact: Ryan Coogler directed this movie. He's actually black and from Oakland, CA so really cool that Killmonger spent his childhood there in this movie. Ryan also directed "Fruitvale Station" and "Creed". You were right when you asked if that was the Weeknd singing that song. It's called "pray for me" ft. Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick had alot to do with the majority of this soundtrack. Alot of dope songs, "All The Stars" by SZA & Kendrick is another favorite of mine from this movie's soundtrack.

Marquis keel

Suprised ian see anyone say it but Kendrick did the entire soundtrack for this movie and it won a Grammy it’s one of the best movie soundtracks in a decade only ones that come close to me are the Animated spiderverse movies which u need to watch if u wanna see true art in cartoon form theyre amazing films the first soundtrack was good but they got metro boomin to do the second and it’s great

itsRichErich

Btw the next marvel movie you react to "Avengers: infinity war"... is my favorite film in the entire MCU... just my personal favorite. So going to be a very long week for me as I anticipate your reaction for that lol

Mark B

I don’t have time to be searching for Os with eyebrows 😂

Anabel Gonzalez

There is a movie a couple of years old with Viola Davis about the Agojie warriors, The Woman King, interesting to watch :)

itsRichErich

This is not super hero related at all but would love to see you react to a movie called "A Bronx Tale" if you have not seen it.

Mike

That's the whole point. Why should we be bound by tradition and ritual, even when it doesn't make sense, even when the whole world is out there. The fight is an allegory for Wakanda as a whole. Should we stay in the old ways or make something new?

Mike

YES! I would go so far as to say the two spider-verse movies are the best animation I've ever seen, and top 5 comic movies. I REALLY love them

LumpyGrits

Not quite on the Lexus. That’s the LC 500 F sport. Not quite as fast as they sound but they sound absolutely glorious. Don’t get me wrong. They’re pretty fast. But they can’t definitely be fairly easily walked down by things with a lot smaller price tag.

Diiego

2nd this!!

D Montano

If you do those you'll have to do Hoodlum and the Cotton Club. All three are great films.

Matthew Langley

Loved this movie, really enjoyed your enjoyment of it too :)

itsRichErich

👀👀👀 It's Marvel Mondays & the anticipation is killing me I'm so hype for the next one lol

Gregory Sambrano

thought it was just me guys the day has come "To infinity and beyond" - Buzz lightyear

Susan B

“King Leopold’s Ghost,” excellent non-fiction book

Susan B

I’m not part of the Marvel fandom but I love this film, and saw how it thrilled Black children from my southside Atlanta neighborhood when some movie tickets were donated. (Kids whose families could no more afford to take them to the movies than to the moon.) Representation matters. Seeing a superhero who looks like you means the world to children who have never seen that before.

Susan B

Soar across galaxies, Chadwick. You made something important while keeping your illness a secret.

Drewcliff82

As amazing as always. This one and SHC aren't as good as Doctor Strange but now on to Infinity Wars. T- Chala is unique in that he is king but also has to perform hero duties as well. He's got a lot on his plate. This movie definitely became a part of black culture very quickly. But back when I was growing up Black Panther was one of the most popular heros that didn't have a show or movie.

Luke

Are you gonna do the 2nd ?
