First! Haha caught it right when it went up! Cant wait this season is a doozy!

Jennifer Melfi is the conscience of this show. Every single one of us wanted her to use Tony to get revenge on the rapist, and she wanted to. But she chose to stay true to her own values.

In the documentary about the making of the series, the actress who plays Dr Melfi talks about getting the script for this episode and when she got to the scene on the stairwell, she called show runner David Chase and said, “Why would you hurt her?” She felt protective of her character and the violence sickened her, as it should. But Chase asked her not to react until she read the end. Then she got it: Jennifer’s decision not to use her patient for revenge wouldn’t have the impact it does if not for the raw brutality of the rape scene. It’s as violent and ugly as it needs to be, to make viewers understand the life-changing nature of the rape, and how tempted she is to find justice through Tony. “Do you want to tell me something?” “No.” And my heart breaks for her, but I’m also so proud of her.

The rape scene never gets any easier to watch, a credit to the acting and the director. Dr. Melfi knew she could learn to live with her attacker getting away with it, but she couldn't learn to live with compromising her values for vengeance by using her patient to hurt somebody--even somebody so richly deserving. She also takes solace in knowing that she could, and that Tony would make her rapist suffer for what he did to her. At least that's how I interpret what happened.

Hot Damn!! It's Sopranos Time Again!! Tonight's Episode - Employee of the Month A stand out episode in a Season ripe with them. Lorraine Bracco is amazing in this episode. It's a tough watch because not only was she amazing , the camera work , sound , etc all just came together. And we get more Ralphie , and Mr. LBoyd's favorite , Janice!!! ; ] Checklist Time - Fatty rolled and ready - Check - Beer freezer cold - Check - Smokes and Zippo - Check " Don't mess with the Russians: it's all I'm gonna say." Peace

Annnd we're done!! Great reaction Sir! This episode does have some important setup for the season , but I will say no more. Although I am glad you reacted to Gladiator as Ralphie does like to quote it. BTW , my Aunt Janet sometimes wore her hair like Jenny Sacrimoni. Especially when I was much younger. She was one of my mom's sisters. Fire hazard hair to be sure. : ] I am just glad to see you are still enjoying the show as much if not more with each episode. And I also wanted to say as always , the comments on here are stellar! Makes it even more fun to watch: ] If memory serves me , Monday should be The Amazing Spiderman (2012). o very excited for this weeks drops Sir! Thanks again to all. Peace

Behavioral therapy does exist, but there are different modalities. Cognitive behavioral therapy for example operates under the assumption that feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are all reciprocal in their impact on one another. To your point Dr. Melfi seems to be taking a more psychodynamic approach which I guess would be more "talking" as opposed to CBT. CBT is usually shorter, and includes treatment options for negative behaviors. Therapy must be backed by empirical research, and often has beneficial results.

“Give back the leg.”

Tony didn’t go to a behaviorist because he didn’t think his behavior needed to change.
