I'm not sure Tony talking to Agent Harris makes him a snitch. Cosa Nostra has a long history of helping certain branches of the government, especially during war time.

Susan B

My best friend’s happy laughing brilliant successful daughter killed herself at age 19. I have never and hope never again to witness grief like that. It happened in front of friends and family. The funeral haunts me 25 years later. Silence punctuated by a long low wailing sound that was her mother. What haunts me is that I *did* understand that impulse to bring the despair to an end. Despite all the love that surrounded this wonderful girl, she somehow couldn’t bear another moment of whatever secret pain she was carrying.

Susan B

Suicide has nothing to do with hatred except for hatred of the self, and I can only ask you to imagine a mental pain that is like the physical pain of burning. In the moment, the only thing that matters to a burning person is making it stop. I’m not saying there aren’t people who use the threat of suicide as a form of manipulation. I grew up alongside someone who always managed to be rescued in time. But when my friend’s very loving, generous and caring child chose to end her own life, Im certain there was no hatred of her family.

Susan B

Side note: the guy Meadow is dating is the son of one of Tony’s mobsters, whose twin brother Tony had killed back in an early season.

So very sorry for you and your friends loss. Peace

Susan B

Btw, I’m really sorry for what your family is going through, and I wish for your daughter the realization that there is a way out of the despair. As I said to a friend who talked about suicide, it doesn’t end the pain it just spreads it to other people. That can be a difficult thing to appreciate when you live in despair. Meds helped me find joy again.

It's this evil voice in the back of your head, telling you all the wrong things. Twisting the true meaning of everything, even others love and concern.

Susan B

Thank you. I am happy to say that my friend has led a wonderful life despite the loss that she says is the first thing she thinks of when she wakes up every morning. Her younger daughter is a mom now, and my friend adores her grandkids. It is astonishing to me that she survived and found a way to move on. She’s my proof that people can survive unspeakable pain and find surprising happiness.

Susan B

Tony and AJ are both obsessed with war in different ways.

Susan B

Mr B, not knowing your daughter’s age, I just wanted to comment that treating depression is more complicated with teenagers and those in their early 20s, because their impulse control and anticipation of consequences (to themselves or to people around them) isn’t fully developed. That part of the brain is still growing.

Alllright people!!! Tonight's Episode - The Second Coming Ok , so this one is a heavy episode in many ways. And after some events from last episode , it only gets bigger in this one. It's a great episode , but goes to some very dark places. With that being said , It's Checklist Time!! - Fatty rolled and ready - Check - Eatables eaten - Check - Smokes and Zippo - Check. : ] Hit the intro music , and lets go back ta Jersey!! Peace

01:09 - Had ta pause from laughter when Ridin ' Dirty played because all I could think of was/hear was the Weird Al parody White And Nerdy: ] LMAO TY ; ]

Annnd we're done! Outstanding reaction Sir! : ] Very insightful comments , and your tension waiting to see what Tony would do was so much fun to watch. ; ] And what will happen next?? The Journey is almost over : [ Before I throw a few Fun Facts , I have a request for you Sir. After the final episode , before you start a new show , the next week I would love to see you do a video of your overall thoughts on the series as a whole. And I think many others here would enjoy that as well. I think it would be very interesting: ] Ok , Fun Facts - The book Silvio reads is "How to Clean Practically Anything Third Edition" from Consumer Reports Books. And there is at least 1 for sale on Ebay for 2.40 + S&H BTW. lol - Timothy Van Patten's 20th and final episode for the series. No director has done more episodes than him. - When Coco is "curbed" by Tony the production team used a specialized "latex-and-resin" prosthetic for the character's jaw and teeth, and James Gandolfini was instructed to perform the scene with "animalistic rage" to show Tony's protective fatherly instinct overriding his business logic. - David Chase wanted to show how AJ's exposure to the "gears of the world" (through the internet and news) was crushing his individual spirit, making him feel like a small part of a failing machine. Super excited for the next episode !! And thanks to Mr Boyd , and all here for the insightful , and honest comments. I really do love this place: ] Peace

The bloody tooth in Tony’s pants cuff while he’s at a therapy session for AJ says it all about his parenting style. 😬

Susan B

Took me a minute (overnight) to get past the darkness of the episode and give huge respect to Robert Isler (AJ) for that performance.

Hamad

Imo Tony was the one being soft with aj , remember when aj came home with no eyebrows lol. Carmela suggested that he should get punished for it , while Tony brushed it off saying teenagers do stupid stuff.

countingfacess

has the next show after this is over already been decided?

Susan B

It’s gotta be Lilyhammer. 😃 The comedy starring Silvio actor as a mob boss. Hilarious.

Susan B

Have you watched Lilyhammer?

Susan B

Does anyone else think Robert Isler (AJ) was underrated by fans of the show, because his character was unlikeable (or, as Isler himself described his character, “He’s so ungrateful.” Like many people, I’ve watched The Sopranos multiple times, and this time in particular I’ve been impressed that this child actor (11 or 12 at the time he was cast), who was probably chosen for the pilot because he was chubby and funny and did a fine delivery of “No fuckin’ ziti?” grew into the actor we see in this episode, capable of portraying a deeply broken young man. He’s so believable that we all wind up discussing suicide almost as if we had seen a real suicide attempt. This kid had to dig into some dark places to portray a suicide with such shattering authenticity. Like James Gandolfini, he seems to have carried that sadness home with him for a long time - He became an addict and an alcoholic at a very young age. Selena recovered now. I’ve seen him on a lot of podcasts talking about the experience of being on the show. (in the first season, David Chase the show runner asked him not to watch the show or even be on the set for the more violent scenes, because he didn’t want the boy playing Tony’s son to know what Tony’s character was really like.)

LumpyGrits

Something that everyone of the very few that has jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and lived? They all had a very similar thought on the way down. Wtf was I thinking. That’s what kicked AJ in the balls when he went under. Most people don’t understand things like chronic depression. Even family closet members. But Most of us that deal with it are masters of camouflage. There honestly is no “Fixing” the problem. There’s only learning how to manage it. It’s like an incurable but manageable mental cancer. Chronic Depression and Bipolar disorder are extremely closely related. My personal kick in the balls was when my little brother took himself out with a 300 Win mag deer rifle through the chest. And having to be the one to tell his kids back on December 1st 2011. And yes to both. People offing themselves has Always been a thing. But things are more likely to be diagnosed and this and everything else is 100% more visible these days. There didn’t use to be a “spectrum” necessarily. You were just different levels of nuts or crazy.

Tyler Merbler

Yes, Iler played the arc of AJ’s life brilliantly, especially when across from Gandolfini.

Susan B

He suffered as a teen actor. Arrested for armed robbery at age 16, if I’m not mistaken. Addiction issues. Seems to have turned his life around, and remains close to the actor who played Meadow.

Susan B

A funny thing said by AJ actor Robert Isler, who was 11 when he was cast, is that the first day on set for the pilot, Paulie actor told him, “Don’t get too excited, kid. These things never amount to anything.” At which point the kid went home and told his parents, “I had to give up summer camp for nothing.” 😎

Susan B

If you love The Sopranos like I do, and you seem to, Lilyhammer is the delightful bong hit that helps you come down when Sopranos ends. It was the first made-for-Netflix series, and is seriously great.

Madmanmarz1981

Yeah , I watch Sopranos 3 times a year at least. So yeah , I sorta like it , lol. And I will take your advice and I will vote for it for next TV Show , and if it does not win , I'll just DL it: ] (I still "Sail the 7 Seas" If ya know what I mean; ]) Peace

Susan B

I’m so sorry for what happened to your family. And yes, camouflage is a thing we do when we are battling depression. Because depression when it isn’t hidden looks like self-indulgence, and we know how it looks, and we are deeply ashamed.
