Saving Private Ryan always made me chuckle for the same reason. Never enough bright eyed and bushy tailed Joes in most of the movies. Mel did it right with Hacksaw Ridge I thought.

That particular unit in hacksaw ridge was made up of mostly middle aged guys in real life. It was an experimental unit.

Both my granddads fought in Vietnam. One airforce in '68 and the other Army in '69. One joined the other was drafted.. The one that was drafted was trained as a flamethrower. After a while in Phu Bai he happened to be around when a Colonel asking for a Jeep driver and he quickly volunteered. He more than likely wouldn't be here today had he not volunteered to be the driver. Flamethrower was not the safest option to be. Lol Side note. You were talking about war photography. There's a narration free documentary called Restrepo that follows a platoon in Afghanistan in 2010. It won awards. Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington were the filmmakers they embedded with the platoon. It wouldn't be youtube appropriate but for Patreon it's fine.
