Missing helms deep, from the wall explosion to them retreating inside

Susan B

Still a chunk of the battle missing, but thank you for the work!

Teth

Still missing some of the battle of helm's deep (the king getting injured) and Merry and Pippin talking after the entmoot (there won't be a shire)

Dustin Puhalski

Dont tell mr.boyd but I definitely didn't see a dwarf get tossed in the reaction. Lol.

Stephen ODaniel

"Toss me". Oh man, hated missing that bit but at least Mr. boyd got to see it

Susan B

Mr Lloyd, this might be a good time to note that the extended versions in this trilogy are less painstakingly edited than the original versions. You might notice some minor but annoying continuity issues, for example, that we didn’t see in the theatrical release. And a few scenes are added to the extended version that were wisely left out of the originals, like the rather silly exchange you noted with Pippin and Merry after the trees flood Saruman’s tower. The only reason I’m bringing this up before you watch the third and final film (my personal favorite) is that the extended version is going to contain a couple of minor scenes that might seem not to match the timeline. They don’t distract from the story, but might have you wondering how much time has passed. (Continuity problem.) Return of the King deserved its many Oscars including Best Motion Picture, at least in part because the theatrical version didn’t suffer from any editing or continuity errors such as you might notice in the extended.

Susan B

More missing footage! I just remembered the six-hour sequence where Treebeard hatches from an acorn. No, wait. Just a nightmare.

Hugobertram Wasenloge

Personally i always recommend first time viewers to watch the theatrical reases first, and then if they love the movies like we do, tell them about the extended versions

Teth

I'd argue the other way around. The extended versions are easier to follow because they don't leave out scenes that are vital to the story. Such as the fate of a certain major player at the start of the third movie.

Susan B

Agreed, Hugoberta. There’s a lot that I love in the extended editions, but spoiler and spoiler would be better in the third film if they didn’t know spoiler.

Susan B

Mr Boyd, when will LOTR 3 Return of the King be up?
