Ooh, looks like things are about to get real. What’s interesting is that I think this might be the first time we’ve seen Scarlet make such a big mistake despite her good intentions. She might’ve been pleasuring the guy, but she still essentially triggered his trauma like Gabby did in the other issue. It possibly stings more because Scarlet meant so well. Real curious to see how things get addressed and (hopefully) patched up.

Considering how he seemed to admire her and his explosive reaction to just seeing her before, what if the crying wasn't from feeling shame but him getting to be in the ring with her? Tears of joy?

I wonder if it might seem jarring to those who aren't aware of the Preemie's Peril tie-in... but that'll be exposited in time of course for those who haven't read it. This is definitely a deeper story than usually told with these, expanding more on where it can go. Spends a lot less time in the ring than usual and has a conflict that's more complicated than just getting in a fight. Aside from giving closure on a long suffering MC, it also seemed like the right time to flesh out Scarlet more as a character. 'Cause yeah up to this point she hasn't made a mistake like this. It was important to show that she's not perfect, I think. It'll still be extremely horny at the end of the day of course, but only after taking some time to show what the heart of the story is.

Yeah, I could see how this could be a bit sudden or jarring for anyone that doesn't know Johnny’s backstory, but I could also see them finding it to be a compelling twist for similar reasons. Up till now, we’ve seen Scarlet solve all her problems by being good at fighting and/or being sexy. This makes for a good change of pace that lets us see a new side of Scarlet as she faces a new sort of challenge. I’d wager that, even without the context of Johnny, many folks would still find this interesting and fresh. If there was something “missing” in the foreshadowing, *maybe* it was one more panel of Johnny looking/sounding depressed even at the tail end of Scarlet’s non-stop pleasure ride. Like a woeful, anime-style moment where his face is partially/mostly obscured (probably by Scarlet’s descending ass) and he says another vague, despondent line that alludes to his past. That might’ve really driven home to new folks that something is particularly up with Johnny, even while getting his world rocked by Scarlet (which would normally be a good thing). BUT, I think that’s more of a style nitpick than anything, and I wouldn’t be surprised if similar somber moments that serve the exact same purpose come up later, as you dive into the exposition. In any case, I’m eager to see the heart of the story soon.

The thing is, I think people are very conditioned to assume the people in these stories want to be dommed even when (ESPECIALLY when) they say otherwise. If you go back and see what he was saying and thinking during the fight and just take it literally, I think the conflict between how it felt physically and emotionally there was made pretty clear. But I noticed nobody was really taking it that way. Can't really blame them I suppose, I've done the whole 'teaching people to admit how much they love it' angle many many times. Preemie's Peril itself was written as like a more drawn out and extreme version of this initially, but then it ended up being TOO extreme and that's how we got here, with him having a very serious aversion to that mentality. But yeah another thing is that I felt like if he were any more blatant it would've made Scarlet look really callous for not noticing, so there was kind of a line to walk there.

Yeah true, it's definitely a fine line to walk, and it's likely new territory for a number of folks that follow you. But I'm sure the more you do it the easier it'll be for you to navigate and the easier it'll be for readers to get on board with it. Like you said, you've done so much of one style that fans have been conditioned to it, so it stands to reason that you'll just need to re-condition us again as you change/expand styles.
