What makes Ukai's appreciation more genuine is the fact that he himself was a setter. He knows damn well what Atsumu did is beyond impressive and sometimes the only thing you can do in such situations is appreciate your opponents abilities.

Ok, anime essay time because this episode is OVERFLOWING with information that I love, one of the most dense and underrated episodes in my opinion! :) First, we gotta start from Kinoshita and Nishinoya. You can support your team on and off the court, as Noya's training partner Kinoshita knew him better than anyone and helped him in the moment of crisis, that was his hero moment. Just brilliant writing from Haikyu as always, brings tears to my eyes! :) When you are scared, the best you can do is ask help from others by opening up, thats what Noya did in time-out and our boys delivered! Love them all so much! Twin back story is one of the best writing in Haikyuu which goes under the radar. There is so much to unpack. First Osamu was a little better initially, thats important. Atsumu got mesmerized by the idea of "setting", "I will help you get the ball" quote. Both got better but we can literally see this is Atsumu's passion more than Osamu so he took over the setter job over time. We can also see why Atsumu made goody-2-shoes comment to Kageyama. He is very demanding, doesn't care when Osamu says teammates calling him jerk, his only response was "so?". He is ALL about volleyball, he sees the world through that perspective. Another thing is how Osamu helped Atsumu stay connected with the team. Atsumu seems very self-sufficient but we can also see how much Osamu tries to connect him even via annoying him when he is all by himself, seperated from the team. Atsumu COULD have catastrophe like Kageyama's, Osamu is the reason it never did. Oikawa and Atsumu comparison is interesting because I always see them as 2 sides of spectrum, Oikawa is the ultimate "help teammates-support them no matter what-burden all the responsibility" guy while Atsumu is "I will do my job best and I demand you to do your job best otherwise I will call you out". The perfect balance probably lies somewhere between (ehem ehem Kageyama?:D) but also there is context behind it, mainly their teams. Atsumu IS playing on national fav level team and best players in country while Oikawa ISN'T so it makes sense for both of them. Next episodes will be peak too, I am super excited! :)
