I remember waking up randomly at 4am on the couch that my brother and I fell asleep on and for whatever reason I turned Netflix on the tv and it happened to be the day this film dropped on Netflix and watched part of it and fell back asleep. But this was my first complete exposure to Beyonce as an artist and I used to be so hyper-fixated on this film that i've seen it probably 20 times but to see you react to it is fulfilling a part of my high school self and its amazing to see you guys branch out into music films such as this one! THANK YOUU!!

So happy you guys got to experience Homecoming and welcome to the Hive!! As private as Bey is, she shows a lot of her life and career through her documentaries/visuals. And luckily for y'all she has a LOT of them. For documentaries she has: • Beyonce...I Am World Tour (2010), Beyoncé: Year of 4 (2011), • Life Is But A Dream (2013), • Homecoming (2011), • Beyoncé Presents: Making The Gift (2019) and • Renaissance (2023 - unfortunately it was in theaters for a limited time and she hasn't released it on streaming but you might be able to find it on youtube, bc people definitely filmed in theaters and posted it online but I don't want y'all to get in trouble with Parkwood 😂). But the other docs you can watch online with no problem. As far as visuals you got: • Beyonce – Self Titled album (all on youtube) • Beyonce Bowl: NFL Halftime Show (sings hits off Cowboy Carter) • The Gift – Movie that coincides with The Gift album (on Disney+) • Lemonade Film • OTR Tour (First joint tour with Jay Z and it was filmed with HBO) A lot of these are either on youtube or elsewhere online. I’m probably missing others but I’m sure other Hive peeps in the comments with let y’all know. PS: although y’all didn’t get to go to the Renaissance and Cowboy Carter tours, there are videos of the full concerts all on youtube, and a lot of them are HI-DEF thanks to the Hive lol. Her visuals from both of these tours are absolutely insane and if you get the chance, I highly recommend watching them! Ok sorry for the long post, thanks so much for posting this! 😊

Beyonce has so many great documentary concert films! She had a joint world tour with Jay Z called On The Run (OTR) that was filmed and can be found online. There’s also the Renaissance film which is also great! Ugh I loved watching this. I hope you do more of hers!

Did you guys catch Led Zeppelin in Don’t hurt yourself? There’s drums sample from When the levee breaks in the album version (I would never know if I didn’t look it up) but in the middle of the Homecoming version of this song there’s interpolation of Kashmir, it’s so cool!

One of my favorite facts from this is that she was paid about ~4 million per weekend while still keeping the rights of the footage, something Coachella doesn’t usually do. She then turned around and signed a $60 million deal with Netflix for the rights of Homecoming 👑

Writing this while watching around the 1h09min mark, but I couldn’t contain my excitement! I don’t usually comment, but this was so close to home, coming from a Beyoncé fan and an HBCU student (Historically Black Colleges and Universities)!! I wanted to share some history and some knowledge about the black community, so you can enjoy this performance even more! HBCUs (or at least mine) were created by slave owners so they could send their colored children to get an education because, at the time, black people weren’t allowed to go to colleges. The earliest HBCU institution was founded in 1837. So that gives a quick history lesson lol, but what I wanted to share was about the culture of HBCU homecomings. This is so important in our culture; it is not just a big party, but a ritual of resistance. Where black people can show up to a safe space and be free. Homecomings include step shows (shown at the concert too, but usually reserved for and performed by the D9), concerts (mine had Drake freshman year lol #Blessed), cookouts, football games, fashion shows, etc. At football games, you can see the marching bands and majorettes that accompany them (What you saw in the concert). [If you want to see a good movie about a fictional HBCU marching band, it has Nick Cannon in it, and it’s named Drumline LOL].

At about 1:45:00 btw HBCU stands for historically black colleges. HBCU encompasses many black colleges. There’s a ton of songs you guys don’t recognize in the transitions because you haven’t heard those album yet. A lot of the songs are heavily mixed so you wouldn’t be able to pick out that they are their own songs if you haven’t heard them before. I hope you guys can recall some of the songs in future album reactions. Hopefully you get to do destiny’s child as well.

I’m so so so happy you both got to experience this. This was truly a massive pop culture moment, especially for the Black community. Seeing her continue to set the standard for performing and artistry after 25+ years in the industry is incredible to witness. Beyoncé has definitely mastered the art of the visual album and companion documentaries, her body of work shows for it! I would for sure recommend you watch the On The Run tour doc, as well as Black Is King (2020). Both showcase her notable work ethic and attention to detail! Also, if you want to do more album/music/film stuff, I’m gonna take this time to recommend diving into Jungle’s discography. They did a film for their 2023 album, Volcano, and it’s absolutely phenomenal.

Listen to BDAY!!! I know youll love it. Its 2000s hip hop mixed with funk and soul. It has that song with Jayz that you enjoyed! Or the Black is King album called The Gift. Its a collaborative album with all kinds of features thats an ode to african culture. Really any album you all react to by Bey is worth it. Even the older stuff. Maybe you could check another album out a couple of weeks before act iii comes out to build up the hype?

Right after this performance she started a joint tour with Jay Z, On the Run II as they released their joint album - Everything is Love, by The Carters. Soon after that, in 2019 she released The Gift album and later on the accompanying visual, Black is King. She was not wasting any time😅 she worked on Renaissance during covid lockdown and she was working on CC since 2017.

It was their therapy back in 2014, during the promotion of Beyoncé’s self-titled album, and it’s what made the creation of the albums Lemonade (Beyoncé), 4:44 (Jay-Z), and Everything Is Love (The Carters’ joint album) possible. I think it’s available on Prime Video. I agree with the other comments that you should do Black is King. It came out early days of the pandemic and didn’t get much love but it’s remarkable! No behind the scenes, but it’s truly magnificent with the clothes, dancing setting.

She’s always directed her shows. She’s definitely more than just a singer. She’s worked so hard on her craft. Yall were talking about how in tune she is with the crowd and I recently found out she actually has mics pointed at the audience and positioned throughout the crowd during her shows. So she can actually hear the audience in her in-ears and interact with them. She’s so innovative with her performances and productions. She thinks of so many little details.
