LOL JV thinks it's Envy... she just likes him. Earlier she said she doesn't like boys that are shorter than her. That "shoulders" line was basically just saying she's changing how she looks at Ed. JV is right, they're 14 and 15. The dialogue was a bit confusing, but Trisha (their mom) said the promise she made was that she wouldn't die before their father dies.

Winry is starting to fall for Ed. She's always saw him as just a kid brother, now she is starting to see him as a man. Its nothing more complicated than that.

Ed's father understood why Ed burned down their house; it was out of guilt and shame. He knew Ed is upset and pissed at him for going away, and knew that Ed would not take his advice or suggestion. So he purposely allowed Ed to overhear his conversation with Granny. He knew that Ed would not sit still after hearing that what they had transmuted may not be their mum. He does care for Ed and Al, but what is done had been done. He does not want to sugarcoat Ed for the sins they had committed , but he knew that digging up their "mum" and understanding the truth would bring his children some comfort.
